I have a client that uses nothing else and another who is considering making the switch. Generally it is low maintenance and once you put it in place it generally stays put. The color will eventually fade but it still looks good. I can get it for 4.99 a bale with little to no wood in it. Of the 32 bales I put down last week I probably had two hand fulls of sticks. You can get it cheaper at Lowes or Home Depot (usually 3.99 a bale or so) but it is poor quality and has a lot of sticks and pine cones in it. If any thing inspect the quality at your supplier before you buy. Explain to your client that it may cost more but the quality will be better and it will last longer.

My cost is $3.55/bale. Install for $6-7.00/bale. Covers 30-50 sqft.

I like pine straw better than mulch, but not many people use it around here. Just did a job that used 100 bales. Nursery I go to charges $3.85/bale.

Have some customersthat use it
Good stuff runs 4.00-4.50 per bale
Most of my installs I double the material cost

As said before if you get pinestraw from lowes or hd it is cheaper per bale but it doesnt go as far and has more sticks and such in it

Who uses pinestraw and how much do you pay per bale?

Here we rake all the pine needles up and throw them away, haven't seen anybody use them here. I now one guy who rakes up on his own place between 30 and 40 yards every year and takes them to the dump. thats just his place, i clean up 3 times that amount on clients places. I have to pay 4 bucks a cu. yard to dump them.

We pay around $3.65/bale here for NC long-needle. A little cheaper for the Georgia straw which doesn't have quite as much color and shorter needles.

Unless it's a huge job, I generally charge anywhere from $7.00-$8.00/bale.

Wow. I am a little shocked at the prices some people here pay. I guess it is all relevant to the the area you service, but here in Alpharetta GA, I have been paying 2.90 a bale. The guy I get it from will deliver it for 3.00 a bale. It is very convenient when you try and bounce between jobs. He will give you a trailer for 2.17 a bale. Not sure about the competition's prices, but I am seriously thinking about getting it by the trailer.

The reason I started this thread was just to see what was out there. I sell it at my office for 3$ a bale and I have people try to beat me up on the price all the time. If anyone needs any contact me 770-831-6388. It is really good straw!

I was getting it for 3.50 a bale pretty good straw clean and somewhat red until the guy I was getting it form got to busy for me. We usually got 500 bales a month from him. Anyone know of anyone that will deliver to Winston-Salem N.C. and has good clean bright needles. I saw a guy the other day the had pine needle bales as big as straw bales (no lie)but he was pretty stuck up and wouldnt give me the number. Guess I can blame him in a way. Said they were 5.00 a bale but they were mammoth.

we pay 3.50 here and put it out for 7-8 bucks. I can only sell long leaf. we can't give away slash. Probably because long leaf is baled around here

2.75 a bale delivered in south GA. Pretty fresh, a little faded. Was clean though, no sticks/cones/leaves etc.

The catch, Hispanics with a box truck with "pine straw for sale" and their phone number spray painted all over it. Was a newer GMC though. haha.

The $5.75 is very common in my area for installed. Home Depot has just started and install program at $4.75/bale but it sounds like the quality is suspicious by your comments. There are ways to deal with the fading color.

Do not buy any pine straw from Lowes or HD. It is very poor quality material with I'd say around 20-35% of it being sticks and other debris. The color is often very poor and it bleaches out very fast. The PS you get from a supply yard, while a little more expensive, is a much better quality. I had one job where I spread out 32 bales and at the end i had only a small handful of sticks. Before when I got it at lowes I had a 5gal bucket FULL of sticks and other garbage that was in it. The color seemed to last longer as well.

Thanks for the advice. I have found what I believe to be a reputable supplier and his rates are reasonable. Plus, he gives us the wire bales that cover more area and his has very little debris.
