Howdy,
I did a March overseeding project and the seedlings are just starting to germinate. Recommendations for fertilizing?....I'm totally new to fertilizing and welcome any comment or suggestion. Also, does anybody have an internet based site to read up on the basics?....Something more advanced than just the basics, more geared towards liquid fertilizers and commercial applications.

Use Starter Fertilizer with Siduron at the heavy rate of (6.6 lb./1,000 sq. ft) now (April 18th) and again in 4 weeks (May 16th), also at the heavy rate. Four weeks from the second application (June 13th) use a fertilizer combined with Dimension crabgrass pre-emergent control (use only if the lawn has been mowed twice). On July 11th, apply Fertilizer with Merit to control any grubs that may emerge next fall. Follow the July 11th application with fertilizer applications every 4 weeks as the new lawn is going to take in the food a lot quicker than an established lawn. Next season, you'll be able to fertilize at 6 week intervals.
The starter fertilizer + Siduron is going to be expensive but is needed if doing spring seeding. I recommend doing all future seeding in the fall (last week of August/first week of September is best) if you can.

Start with 18-24-12, it is a great starter fertilizer. 22-3-11 is good for the next couple apps about 4-6 weeks apart. Make sure in the summer your fert is high in slow release fertilizer. Use a winterizer for the last app. Quick release 13-13-13 is good. Apply at 2-4 lbs/m. Apply 4-6 lbs of N in the year.
