To me it looks like its to long behind the rear axle. Might be an issue when turning.
Posted via Mobile Device

Yes it does look a little too long in the tail. That's how we wanted it. Wanted to be sure we will have plenty of room for the up coming mowers we will be getting in the future. Our current truck with trailer measures well over 40 feet. So driving this thing should be no problem and I'm sure we will get used to it.

Really? Huh, But that was a good proper trimming for those palms. They needed a good trimming and a good cleaning of the old cut frongs and dry shells.

We call that hurricane cutting in Florida. Most homeowners and LCOs here have this idea that palms should be left with 2-3 fronds which is false. Palms store food in the fronds sonwhen you remove a live frond you are removing food. The palm research experts at the University of Florida recommend only removing dead fronds, fruits, and flowers. Now, if you must remove live fronds, it is recommended to go no higher than the 3 and 9 o'clock position. Now, I don't think you guys in Cali have as many problems with nutrient deficiencies as we do in Florida, but just throwing out some knowledge. I didn't mean any harm.

A few pictures from a seminar that we attended back in Febuary at John Deere Landscapes. The seminar was on synthetic lawn. We attended it because we were curious to see what is the buzz with this stuff. And I can tell you that a person that lays out carpet for a living would do excellent in this stuff. I don't know, I just don't see this stuff being so much in demand. Especially where we are located. The was free barbque, so that was also a reason we went. There was this one guy there that knew it all. I mean he would not shut his mouth. He would ask question that he already knew the answer to. He did mention that he has done like around 200 of those synthetic lawn installations. And I said to myself "so what, you want a medal or something?" I feltl like telling him to shut the freak up man.

that is the best post on lawnsite ever!!!

The major fabrication is done on the ramps. Just a little bit of things left on them, like some handles on the side of them.

Your ramp angle looks a lot better than the commerical ones. They are unsafe to go up and down with a 21". Is the force to close those gates reasonable or will you add an assist device.

They are pretty reasonable to close. We made them of much lighter material. Unlike the ones that others build with stronger heavier material. But there's always the possibility of us making an assist for them. And believe me when I say it. We can make them ourselves. Thanks for looking.

You guys live on easy street that soil looks like compost. Do you think that machine could be retrofitted with a thin blade to make a line for drip? There is a new big interest in drip but few people are doing install after the sod is established.

Show us another closer picture of your WORK truck and trailer that is in the back ground.

You can say that again. This was by far the easiest, softest soil we have worked with. We trenched all that we could with the trencher of course being careful not to hit any existing water lines or gas. Anything else that we thought would be to close we do by hand. Its funny you ask about that machine possibly being retrofitted with a thinner blade for drip line. I've seen a couple of guys installing drip under new sod jobs. But only in Texas. The guy with the business named Eagle Landscape. He did a couple of commercial install like that. It was the first time I've seen that done. I asked him if that was drip being installed under the sod. Because I couldn't believe it. Haven't seen it here in California yet. I'll be glad to get some pictures of our truck and trailer on soon.

No we are not licensed for irrigation. Not sure if California requires a license to do irrigation installation. I know that if you have your landscape contractor license in California, you can do irrigation work. Also we are not installing a back flow preventer. You don't need one when you use antisiphon valves as to in line valves.

Makes sense.
I'm guessing that each valve has a built in AVB or PVB. Here you have to have a separate backflow device on all systems. I.e. not on the valve. It goes in right after the meter on the customers side of the meter.

I noticed you guys were using a smaller, more manageable trencher on that job. Are you able to get them 12" deep with that? Here, it has to be at least that deep or the frost line is a problem.

Yes we are able to go all the way to 2 feet deep with that trencher if we wanted to. But here in Fresno, Ca. it doesn't freeze like other parts of the country. 6 to 8 inches works fine around here.

After deciding that our super lawn trucks' tail came out longer than we anticipated. And although we see plenty of trucks out there with the same lenght of tail as ours on the road, for safety we just didn't want to risk the chance of causing a wreck out there. So we decided to put the great fabrication skills to work again and push back the rear end of the truck. But also fabricating and installing an airbag system on it. Here are some pictures of the spring brackets being placed further back on the frame and mounted on. More pictures of the airbag system are to come.

Don't have any more for sale buddy. Was only able to sell one pair. The gardners here don't really want to spend the money for something nice like that. You should see the ridiculous racks they use or make here. They retail here for $200. We sold ours for $150. Also the price of of metal here has sky rocketed making it dificult to fab something and sell it for a profit.

Thanks. That soil was very very soft. The trencher ripped through it fast. There was though about 100 feet of trenching we had to do by hand due to the trencher not being able to fit in certain areas. But although it was done by hand it was easy. From all the installs we have done I can say we have run into hard pan only once. The trencher was just bouncing.

The guy with the walkbehind edger is actually our father. He really loves that edger. We are trying to convince him to trade over to a stick edged. He's not to fond of the idea yet. The "small mulch job." Is that sod bermuda that was topdressed with sand?

Yes that is Bermuda turf that was topdressed with sand. We did not do the actual topping ourselves. The home owner himself did it. We just installed the irrigation and sod. I am not familiar with topping turf with sand. Is this common? Is it safe to do? My customer told us that he was told by people who work on golf courses that it is done all the time.

Yup, it is common practice to scalp, verticut, and topdress Bermuda and zoysia with sand. We use this green sand here that has some nutrients in it. It's a very profitable niche market.

Nice! Glad to see there are some people in here that cut sports turf the right way.

Yeah, we don't really like to take on too many of these type of lawns unless the pay is good. But in this case the customer had a lawn that we were cutting with a regular rotary mower but he converted over to a short cut bermuda. It's just that the maintenance cost for the reel mowers are costly compared to a rotary mower. And we really don't have that good of a reel mower and we don't have enough of these accounts to go out and spend nearly $2,000 on one of those nice reel mowers.
