yes i am very proud of the work that we do and the type of service that we provide. yeah, a lot of people call it just mowing, but to us it's more than that. we see it as in providing a professional service. professionals who know what they are doing and take pride in what we do. some customers really appreciate that. and others still can't see that. all my guys always look professional. "uniforms baby!" we are only a three man crew. but if you see us rolling down the road you would think we are this huge company. which i know we will be one day. anyways, i am proud of what i do and as long as i can do it we will keep providing "professional lawn care service"

orlawncaresvc -- It looks like you do very nice work ... but you haven't responded to the question concerning what size of lawns you reserve the Phazer 34" for, how many square feet ?? In other words, what is the largest lawn you would cut with the 21" machines that you have ??
orlawncaresvc
06-24-2009, 12:02 AM
We put our Exmark Phazer just about any where we can fit it. our 21 inch mowers get just about the same use as our phazer. our biggest residential where we use our phazer is about 4 acres. and our commercial accounts are pretty huge also. our phazer save us time and with it mulching we don't have to worry about hauling away clippings
93Chevy
06-24-2009, 12:09 AM
4 acres seems like a lot for only a 34." But obviously it works for you, so I'm not here to judge your techniques.

here are some pictures of some hunter rotor sprinklers we replaced at one of our commercial accounts. the old rotors were Hunters PGPs. most of them were not working properly any more. so we decided to upgrade all 16 of them. we went with the Hunter I20 stainless steel and some 36SS. wow these rotors are awesome the best we have used yet. we have used the regular I20s, but the stainless steel are awesome and they will last a lot longer.
orlawncaresvc
06-24-2009, 11:40 PM
thanks Blaskos. my brother who is my business partner did not like them at all. i really liked them. he said they looked like toy hats. he actually liked the logo on the hat, but he said that it looked like a "smalls hat" from the movie sandlot. we are actually going to be upgrading our logo on our truck and hats and also be getting new uniforms and hats. do you anybody else use uniforms or company hats?

how come you use push mowers so often
orlawncaresvc
06-25-2009, 02:31 AM
in the first picture, that is one of our residential accounts. we usally use our zero turn mower. but today we used our 21 inch mower, don't really know the reason why but we did. and on the pics below that is one of our commercial accounts and there is a lot of debri right now from grinding stumps and pieces of black top were spilled on some parts of the lawn. It's a asphalt plant and they had a huge spill so we have not been able to use our bigger mower.

Looks good. Alot of work going on. Is that clear plastic you're putting down under the mulch?
orlawncaresvc
08-03-2009, 09:31 PM
It's just basic 4 mil plastic. we have had this account for about 4 years now and every spring and summer we have a real problem with weeds. so we decided to make it easier and lay out the plastice to block out the weeds. a concern of ours was if enough water was going to get to the plants and flowers. we took a pitch fork and poked enough holes around every plant and flower so that water and enough air get to.
Runner
08-05-2009, 01:23 AM
It looks like it is relatively clear...That's why I asked. You're spending a whole lot of time and labor for nothing. Not only that,...it is actually causing you MORE work. Your mulch should be a MINIMM of three inches deep to block a half way decent mount of light (to keep the weed seeds from germinating). Anythng less, and it defeats the purpose. The plastic i waste, because with mulch, there is no need for plastic, visqueen, or felt barrier with mulch, as it (mulch) just dissipates and is just top dressed every once in awhile - as opposed to decorative stone or any other type of aggregate where the felt barrier is needed to keep it from dissipating into the soil.
What is worse, is that if that material is like a clear type plastic (or white), it will do the pposite of what you re trying to achieve, as it wll actually work as a greenhouse effect..causing even MORE weed growth. Go heavy on he mulch...REAL heavy. That is always the best deterrent. Short of that, a basic pre-emergent application should be applied. I am sure this will save you alot of work (and time) in the long run.
orlawncaresvc
08-10-2009, 09:52 PM
oh, i forgot to say that the plastic we used is a black plastic.

Just curious myself I thought I would put this design up and all pricing of material of a estimate that I went to this past saturday and see what replies I would get. Not really a big job. Oh and my drawing... well let me know what ya think.
605 sq. ft. of sod = $211.75
240 ft. sch. 40 1" pvc = $57.60
8-4" sprinkler bodies = $12.48
8- 12" sprinkler bodies = $16.00
2-12" radius center strip nozzles = $4.00

Here are some pictures of us fabricating our own catcher for our Exmark phazer. We looked around for a catcher for our machine from the internet to our dealer and we thought, heck we could build our own. Our dealer was selling us the exmark catcher originally ment for the phazer for $300. I came across a company on the internet called accerlerator industries. They had some very very nice catchers. Which my dealer actually also sold. He was selling one for $460. I found some other equipment companies online that were asking $350 for an accelerator industries catcher. For less than $45 and 4 man hrs so far we are making our own. Here are some pics of the process. What do you guys think?

I've been looking at your thread for a couple days. You guys do nice work. I'm a newby, part time, small (really small), basically grass cutter for now. I want to install a sprinkler system at my own house, but when I saw those pics of valves I now know there is some more research that needs to be done on my end. I can't see paying $3,000 on irrigation when I could use that money to buy some better equipment. I look forward to seeing updates.

Yeah, It cost money to install a nice sprinkler system. Even if you are doing it yourself for yourself. Are you buying your home or do you own your home. I would only install a sprinkler system if I was buying my house or own it. Right? Believe it or not we didn't know jack when we first started fooling around with sprinkler systems. Its all about learning on your own. At least that's how we did it. But don't get it twisted, I've put in my hours of reading and studying on flow control, psi, back flow prevention, designing, and a lot of other stuff. We were lucky enough to get to install a couple of system and use them as practice for some friends and family. At no charge for labor just the material and they were very good practice for us. I'll tell you your house would be a great practice for you.

We have been wanting to put a drop on our trailer for a long time now. We finally got to it and started it this weekend. I would def. try on my own house first. Maybe call in some help when it came to the valve and timer installation. I got a buddy in the irrigation business who may be willing to lend a hand. We'll see...
It is very nice not to have to pay someone an hourly fee for metal work. My neighbor is a metal fab/welder. He does all my projects and I help keep his yard in shape. Works out for both of us. I bought a rusted out home depot trailer from a guy. Scraped everything but axle and wheels. Paid $75 got $25from scrap yard. Paid @ $400 for metal from a buddy whose F-I-L owns a metal business. Bought lumber for floor and had a near brand new 7'x12' lawn trailer for @ $600. Not too shabby.

Thanks, I try to make our company look professional all the time. I take pride in our setup and I'm always looking and thinking of new ideas to better and make it easier to carry our equipment. The fab work we do ourselves because it saves us money and we actually love doing it. On our our installs, on how we learned to do them. You can say by doing them ourselves. I guess I'm saying we just got out there and said "here we go." I've read on sprinkler system and water pressure and zones. When I speak about zones I mean sprinkler zones. Grass is growing nicely already here. the second pic is of me and my little boy mowing the grass. Just thought I throw that one in there. The third one is of me with my dads truck. We had to use it as an emergency. Our big one ton truck is down at the moment and we could not repair it in time. So we had to use my dads truck. It's funny because this truck when we purchased it, it was supposed to be one of our work truck. But my dad liked it too much and wanted it for himself so we let him have it. Hope ya like the new pics. Much more to come for this new year.

A few pictures from a seminar that we attended back in Febuary at John Deere Landscapes. The seminar was on synthetic lawn. We attended it because we were curious to see what is the buzz with this stuff. And I can tell you that a person that lays out carpet for a living would do excellent in this stuff. I don't know, I just don't see this stuff being so much in demand. Especially where we are located. The was free barbque, so that was also a reason we went. There was this one guy there that knew it all. I mean he would not shut his mouth. He would ask question that he already knew the answer to. He did mention that he has done like around 200 of those synthetic lawn installations. And I said to myself "so what, you want a medal or something?" I feltl like telling him to shut the freak up man.

In the first picture it was a good size root that was pushing the irrigation pipe. The pipe was actually almost pinched shut. There are a total of 6 sprinkler zones with that one we repaired being zone 5. Since we got this account we always wondered and attempted to see what was causing the low water pressure on zone 5. Well we found out Saturday what is was. After we repaired that line we we tested it and the repair was a success. But then we came across another problem. From us repairing that line it must of added water pressure and some where else a another part of that same line broke due to some more roots. In the second picture a root was pushing the pipe upwards causing it to break it. An expected job that we thought was going to take us about an hour and half ended up taking us 5 hours.

Here are some pictures of some stripes that we layed down today. We mounted a rubber on our deck. The stripes are ok but not good enough to where we want them to be. We will probably be getting a roller or some rolling wheels instead. After seeing a lot of striping on here we think the roller and wheels will work out a lot better. We have been really putting time into our striping kit because in our area there is not much striping done. And we really want to stand out wtih our stripes. I probably over did it on the pictures but we just wanted to show off and compare to some that we will post up later with our roller or wheels striping kit.

Here are a few pictures of us fabricating some racks for our blowers and string trimmers for our smaller trailer. We had to complete these racks in less that a day. Our main work truck broke down on us. We are certain that it's the transmission and which will cost us some money to repair. So we had to use our smaller trailer with my personal 2003 chevy silverado which also broke down on us two days ago. Fuel pump on this one. Talk about some bad luck or something. But can't noboday take our pride, can't nobody hold us down, oh no we got to keep on moving. Lol, Diddy. Well we finally got to demo the Exmark commercial 21. We were able to use it from our dealer a wednesday afternoon until thursday afternoon. We were so looking forward to mowing with this machine. After reading and hearing about all the problems this mower had came out with, we weren't to sure how it was going to perform. We asked our dealer about the famous belt problem and they told us. It really isn't anything big or serious. Just some adjusting that has to be done that's all. Well from being honda commercial 21 users all of our life it was totally different and some getting used the feeling of the mower. We did like the tires it had. Soft and spongy and very absorbant on any inpacts they may recieve. The mower is very fast. Probably too fast. Its very light. We were handling that thing like nothing as compared to our hrc 216 which weighs a lot more. We did notice that the motor would bog down when we would engage it to drive. We thought perhaps the belt on the start of the spin of the transmission? We were not to sure about the single blade but we ran that thing on some high thick grass on the fastest it goes and it cut very nice. But it still can't compete with the twin blade micro cut honda hrc 216 when it come to sucking up leaves. We also noticed that the collection bag would get full very quick. A lot quicker than we expected. We thought it may be because it's not a twin blade and it doesn't cut the grass down finer. Over all my brother and I which are the heads of our operation agree that its an ok mower. And that it would make a perfect summer mower. Not to sure it would do to good in the fall or winter or wet weather. Would we buy one or are we going to purchase one? Not sure yet. Our father who works with us and is a hardcore honda mower lover says that the exmark has nothing on the honda. But we have heard that the new honda hrc 216 is not as good as what they used to make them. We have not been able to demo a honda 216 yet. But honestly we were a little disapointed in the exmark mower. And oh, the belt never came off on us.

I like that trailer did you buy it like that or did you fab it up with the dump?
We made the trailer ourselves. Check out our whole thread, you will see the fabricating process of our trailer. Also other things we have fabricated.

Se mira bien wey. Yo me ordene un traila nueva y van a pintar la traila azul. Yo también pienso que negro es mal, cada quien tiene un traila negro también. Es mejor a tener algo differente.

Man, that looks real good. That would be nice to be able to fab it yourself so you can make it as efficient as possible.

Yeah, that was the whole reason of making the trailer ourselves. Make it how we want it. Make it to where everything is easily to get. And knowing that its our own custom look. Nobody in our area has a trailer like ours. I've seen some copy cats, but can't come close to us.

This is a small mulch job we did this Saturday for a customer who is already a client of ours. 3 yards of black humus. We pulled out some plants and also transplanted some. This area was a big weed problem. It had that cloth weed barrier that many landscapers use. But we pulled that out and went with plastic. The job is not completed yet. We will head back out there Monday and will be adding some more plants. All perennials. In the first picture my brother got in the way as I was taking the photo.

Went out today and finalized that mulch plant job we started on Saturday. We also did a little clean up for a company that has hired us for the past two years to do veggetation trimming on about 7 acres.

Yes, they are a very good product. The frame itself is very sturdy and the wheels and the spindle where the blade attaches are very smoothe. The 4 hp honda GXV commercial motor makes it an awesome machine. We have been very very busy. Our landscape and install jobs have slowed down dramatically. But our maintenance has really picked up. A lot of LCOs would probably ask, "so late in the season?" But here in Fresno, Ca. we stay busy year round as far as maintenance goes. We just picked up a contract with a realestate company that has given us 13 homes that are up for sale and will be giving us more. And we are preparing for the perennial rye seeding. So you can say we are staying busy. It's always a good thing, right?

Started laying out the perennial rye seed. I think this is the most rye seed we've done ever. Any of you do this?

Scalping the lawn at one of our commercial properties for the rye seed. We should start seeing the rye grass around early November and it should be fully grown by early December.

He looks a little big for that phazer haha and Why do you just put down perennial rye and not a blend of fescue ( it could be totally the norm where you are just here I don't know anyone just doing straight rye thanks )

Yeah, just about anybody looks big on that mower. We do the perennial rye seed instead of a rye fescue blend because it's a Bermuda lawn. This process is very popular here in California. Well Fresno, Ca. that we know of. We are also overseeding a lot of our fescue clients with tall fescue blend at the moment.

Be sure to post some pics after the rye comes in. I'm interested in seeing how it turns out. I overseeded mine last week and it's starting to pop up.
