We have been registered with the state of NJ, but a local buddy of mine is telling me a lot of townships in NJ require you to register with the town you do business out of to operate a business, its a $20.xx fee similar to the state fee we pay each year for our business license... i cant find anything online, who else registers and pays to their local municipality for a license to operate like this?

I know if this was a legit thing in my township, we'd next get cited for operating a commercial company out of a residential property :/ I'd rather not do it even if it was a town requirement.

We have a similar thing here. We need a business license for the town we reside in, and also a contractor work permit to work in other towns. The contractor work permit is through the town the you are working in. We got a fine two years ago for 250.00 for not having the contractor work permit. Once you obtain the permit, they issue you windsheild stickers for your trucks. No sticker= ticket and a fine.

Had to pay $5.00. your town wants it so they can tax you on everything from the pencils you sharpen to the smallest shovel you have!

Marlboro for one requires a business license. I think it is a good idea. You need to be a registered business with the state and have Commercial Plates and Commercial insurance, something about half of the landcapers around here dont have.(state law by the way) You get pulled over you get a fine, multiple violations afterwords they confiscate your equipment etc.

yeah im all for that. Im talking specifically about having a license for doing business in the town your house or business is located? how many of you would go to your township and tell them your business IS your house address :/ ?

I live in Jersey. I just use my home improvement contractor license number. I was told that they switched over to that a few years ago and you no longer have to go out and get all these seperate licenses.

Our township requires a business license. It is the amount of $100 per year. the problem is,...only a small fraction of the businesses pay it. This was just brought up at the last township board meeting. I think they are going to abolish it.
