What's the best treatment of existing sandspurs?
My father has a rental property which has always had sandspurs. I imagine I could go ahead and apply a pre-emergent since the yard is mostly common bermuda. But for the sandspur already germinated, what's my best post-emergent control?
Thanks

Lawnspecialties,
I think you are talking about lawn sandbur--correct?!
The best time to totally control them is in the fall with a preemerge and another preemerge before spring. After they emerge, they will lay under the canopy of the dormant bermuda for a while until it gets warm enough to grow. Here in my area of Arkansas, they come out primarily in June, and are a pain on my kids feet. Once they are growing, the only thing you can use is some 3-way after you mow the lawn short. Image works well on it if you are spot spraying, because it is expensive over a whole lawn. You can backpack those spots if you have good eyes to see each cluster in the bermuda. 3-way will work on the smaller clusers before the temps get too hot and it won't do anything for those little burs that are forming. Watch your feet!

.5 oz of Round per gal will also get rid of St Augustine in a St Augustine Lawn. So be careful where you use the only thing you ever learned on Lawnsite.
