Ok Guys

I found a scag on craigslist, here is the AD:

Selling Scag 36'' Commercial Walk- Behind. Has 13 HP Kohler engine. Also comes with extra set of blades and grass catcher. Machine is under 100 hours, I have all receipts and records of work done to mower. New transmission and tune up recently done in August '08. . Ready to make your lawn look great. $1200

Do you think this a good deal? the guys says its a 2005.

Looks a bit abused? Got a trusted mechanic to look at it?

I would say it would be a good buy if you could talk him down to like 8 or 900. I would also look at if there was an hour meter and as long as all the recipts and paper work go along with the service intervals on the machine it would be good. But ask your self does a transmission go after 100 hrs?? I think that is premature but just me. Good luck.

looks a little rough for under 100 hours. Having to replace a gearbox that soon seems a bit odd as well.

Yea having the gear Box go out so soon seemed odd To me as well. Im going to email him and ask him some other questions, hour meter, and history records, and why the gearbox went out soo soon. Anything else you guys think I should ask him?

You need to go look for another unit. I got 12 year old scags that look a lot better than that machine. And transmission don't go that fast probably pulled a lot of weight around and that may have taken a toll on other parts.

I was thinking about your situation. I would say just find anouther one!! The mowers sounds like a lemon with a ton of problems. Stay away from it!! Just my .02 cents

Don't buy it. He's lying to you. There's absolutely no way that machine has under 100 hours unless it's been outside in the rain and snow it's whole life. Even then, the trans would NEVER go out unless it has a ton of hours or unless he abused it (or both:laugh:). It's also not a great deal, especially when you think he's lying about stuff. MAYBE I'm wrong about it, but I doubt it.

I have a '95 Gravely that looked 5 times better than that and the motor went out after not so long. Just my .02 and GL

Another reason for the tansmisson to fail could have been if he was shifting on the go and not comming to a complete stop before shifting or changing gears. That will damage the shift keys at a pretty good pace!

The deck is the only thing that looks beat to me...looks like somone didnt know what a trimmer was...lol. The tires seem abit wore for under 100 hours though...I would give maybe 800-900 for it.
