When the rear wheels start grinding, and I need to replace the entire wheel and shaft - to get it all back good and tight - pinion gears etc....what should those parts run me?

Assuming that you are talking about the commercial model, you can often just replace the small gear that is on the shaft that drives the wheel gear. That will keep you going for a while.
