Hey Guys,

I have a 99 f250 truck on the way, standard cab and just the regular f250 2wd and I was wondering what type of gas Mileage you guys are getting pulling a 6x12 trailer loaded with a couple mowers and trimmers. Also what you guys are getting unloaded and just the truck. Just wondering as this is my first truck purchase bigger than a ranger.

Thanks guys

you will get 10 - 12 mpg.

What would you estimate it to be without a trailer?

I'd say a landscaper's trailer usually stays hitched, oh, about 360 days out of the year.
Now you'll get about 17 without it, but the days are few and far in between.

So you really almost need a car, too.

Yeah its not my main vehicle I drive a Volvo 850 as my main car and it suits needs just fine as a daily driver. I was just wondering on what type of mpg's I would getting with the truck performing other jobs that my company provides.

Thanks for the help and good luck this season! :)

Actually thou, the figures quoted, at least from me, were for an ext. cab with
a ~6 liter engine (350 cid).

Since yours is a short cab, if you're fortunate enough to get one with the 5.0
you can cruise UP to 14 mpg with the trailer, not sure without.
At least that's what I used to see with my std.cab 318 cid D-250.

I can tell you this thou...
An extra lawn mower on that trailer, a lot of crap in back, all this makes a difference.
Yes I do realize we need x many tools on every job :p
But I do try and lighten up the load some times.

99 would be the 5.4L. Watch out for flying spark plugs!!! :)
From what I have heard, at least with the 4x4's is 12ish unloaded, 10ish loaded.

My 92 F-150 5.8L has been getting 13.9 mixed, which suprised the crap outta me! My 92 Ranger with the 3.0L V-6 only gets 15. Ive checked it 3 times now, and its always about there. I kinda wonder if the gas gauge is wrong, but I dont want to run it out of fuel to find out!

I wanted to add something I've been considering doing...
Which is adding an aftermarket mpg gauge as I have noticed this tends to affect
the way I drive (my cars all have one, the truck doesn't) and this effect also
tends to result in better fuel mileage.

To do so, an mpg gauge is actually a vacuum gauge other than the readout is
different, and of course a vacuum gauge only results in instant mpg although
that would still be better than nothing.

One of these days soon I plan on picking one up at Harbor Freight.
They're only $20 but I am waiting for it to go on sale :p

My 2009 f350 5.4 liter ,gets about 9.9mpg empty accourding to the mpg gauge. Probably better with an f250.

If you own a 3/4 ton truck (or bigger) your gas mileage is gonna suck...that's just the nature of the beast...especially hauling trailers...you just gotta pay at the pump! ;)
