Just curios how you all advertise for free, I currently have an add on Craig’s list, the local paper, a weekly mail flyer, and magnets on my truck and my wife’s SUV. Anyone have any other suggestion or ideas? Thank you for your help.
And yes I am lis and insured.

ditto what Mike said, word of mouth is the best form, also make up some yard signs and ask your current customers if you can put one in their yard!
These are my best forms of advertising not to mention the lettering on the trailer!

For free, craigslist is the way to go. You get some people price shopping, but if you are fair and upfront about the cost, most of the time you get the job. I advertised for aeration and power raking and was surprised about how many jobs I got. I think I only had 4 calls that I never heard back from.
I also have my truck lettered and t-shirts.

Yes there is,
word of mouth cost you nothing,
craiglist (your time to put the add up)
T-shirts (you have to wear something when you cut grass, 12 bucks for a t-shirt with your company logo is almost as much as desent t-shirt from sears or jc penny)
some small papers let you post small print adds for nothing
and
GOOGLE lets you post you company for free, as said prior.
granted some of you are going to say time is money, but what is 10 minutes out of your day to post an add on craigslist?

Craig's List for sure - we also get lots of business from handing out flyers door-to-door. Another way is to join what are called Leads Groups - every city has them. They are basically a bunch of small business owners who meet weekly, the purpose is to create a referral network.

Well, maybe not every city but I am guessing every geographic area for sure. We attend four different ones and have gotten many referrals through them - plus have given out many. There are many types of businesses represented - from bankers to mortgage to health - but hardly ever any landscapers so we always get those referrals. Go to this website - www.northraleighleads.com and you can see an example. The other plus is that you get listed on their website, more advertising....

Actually, yes... Craigslist is free. I got started entirely from Craigslist.
And yes, you can advertise on Google Maps now with Google Business Listings for free. Once everything gets set in Google's system, that is great advertising.
I dont consider T-shirts, truck signs, yard signs to be free though.

I sometimes forget about the type of LCO's Here, and I'm sure some have used and may still do, Craigslist.com the quaility of co's that are there is something that not many would want, myself included. I also forget there are a ton of solo guys here, doing work that larger co's cant simply because there is NO money in it.
Yes you can advertise there for free, you may find that the type of clients from there are NOT of high standards, there for you will pay for what you get.
true you may get a few that are OK. higher end co's wont adviterse there simply because we want it all, were NOT mow and go. when you reach the type of quailty and pay that a quailty client will bring, you will understand why craigslist is NOT free advertisement, you will pay with the calls/emails you will recive.
go get some clients that pay you around 14 15 and 2000.00 a month. after you get 35 to 45 of these clients you will then understand.

You shouldn't expect everyone to do everything the way you do. Besides 90% of the people that ask these types of questions are just starting out.
They may just have the money to get their equipment and put out some flyers and thats it for their first year.
Doesn't mean they are doing it wrong. Just means that is what will have to do for them for now.
