Decided to go along with the current trend here on LawnSite. . .
This thread is where I'll be periodically posting pictures of jobs, equipment, random business stuff, etc.

Finally got around to taking some good pics of the equipment and trailer(s)
Comments always welcome. . .

Nice equipment!

Do you work in South County? I think I may have seen you.

LawnTamer - The 36" is an MTD Pro (same as Lesco). It's been a good little backup mower. . . Yeah, the business has grown slowly but steadily. Best job in the world - imo

Bowtie Guy - Thanks! No, I don't usually work in South Co. . .I'm mostly in Chesterfield, Town and Country, and Creve Couer - Olive, Clayton, Manchester. . .

nice exmark wt up with that open trailer?

Thanks - I mostly use the open trailer for leaves/mulch/brush. With the box, I can haul 3-4 cubic yards of stuff.

nice equipment looks good how many lawns do you service.

I service 55-60 residential accounts (avg size is about 1/3 acre) and 2 large commercial accounts.

Thanks for all the compliments. . .

The Chevy is a 1998 Silverado 4x4. . .and the best truck I have owned to date (over Dodge and Nissan). :weightlifter:

Yeah I like the truck too, equipment is nice as well lol. Why don't I see any exhaust system on that truck, as in glasspacks and chrome pipes :p

Nice stuff. How do you like your Echo blowers?

Truck is nice by the way. I love the 95-99 body style.

Well, I thought about getting glass packs or a flow-master, but it wouldn't be very practical in some of the nice neighborhoods I work in.

I love Echo blowers! I've used Stihl - not impressed. . . the Echo PB 755 is a beast with the leaves.

Looks very good! Is that a 4x6 trailer?

MJS

Yep. . .it's pretty useless without the box on it. . .

(Although I used it this spring to haul an aerator around.)

I have Flowmaster muffler and cat on my older Chev, with 3" pipe, it made a huge difference in power and economy, but it is loud! I've had people yell at me to slow down when going 25 mph, it just sounds like I'm punching the gas.

 It will be overflowing more by the end of this summer. . . I tell people that it's the best job in the world - I get paid to work out and get tan. lol

Now all I need is a small dump truck for all the landscaping I do. . .

Long time in-between updates - though obviously no one really cares :)

. . . Have been swamped this year even with three employees - the landscaping market is still pretty slow compared to past years, but we have been fortunate to pick up several larger projects.

Close to 70 accounts right now, and the growth shows no signs of slowing down.

Will post some stripe/landscape pics after I finish with the crew tonight.

Cheers all!

I should also mention that I added a 48" Turf Tracer HP and two 21" Lawnboy commercial mowers to the fleet this year, as well as an Echo chainsaw, a Ryan dethatcher, and a ton of other small stuff.

Even with shelves and racks in the trailer stuff can get a little bit tight (no - we never take more than 2 of the 21"s at a time).

Here are a few pictures from the last couple of weeks - keep in mind it's been quite hot and dry. . . sent the crew out with the camera today but I don't think they got any good ones.

Badly calibrated irrigation to the left, methinks. Customer was oddly unconcerned.

It's been a crazy long time in between updates - just haven't had a whole lotta time to spend on here, but dang - 8 years on Lawnsite!? I feel old.

Added a second truck and crew to the company, with some new Echo handhelds, and a couple of new 21" mowers. I have shifted the company a little bit from large commercial and residential, to small, newer commercial properties and small residential lawns.

The Ford Ranger has about 70k on it right now - had the bed custom built - and it gets between 15-18 mpg, where my truck and trailer was getting around 12. The biggest upside is being able to use my truck for landscaping 100% of the time, and having the mowing and landscaping crews mostly separate as far as the work goes.

I don't have a lot of pictures, but I will try to post some more as the year begins. Down from 50-60 hours a week to about 36 - the years of hard work are finally paying off.

Looks great! If you don't mind me asking, how much did it run you to have that bed built on the Ranger? - Mike

MJS
01-27-2012, 01:48 AM
Thanks guys! Mike, the truck frame was about $3500 to build, and about $400 for install. I designed it mostly myself, and based it roughly off of another company I had seen here on LS (I think Lawn Jockey was the name).
