I used it for the first time this past Friday in my Redmax trimmer/edger at 50:1. I noticed a smell coming from the trimmer though. It was running stronger than when i used the redmax mix and no smoke, but i was getting this smell??anyone ever experience this??? i didnt get any smell from the edger though??? TIA

there is a slight smell.. mostly because you were running it too rich. Run it anywhere from 80-100:1. We've been running it 80:1 for 3 years without replacing ANY of our 2 stroke equipment...

i dont understand though...redmax tells you to run at 50:1 and when i did, there were NO problems, why would running it at 80:1 be better?

It depends on what oil your running, most factory oils are designed to be mixed at 50/1. Amsoil and Opti are designed to be run at 100/1. I run the Amsoil at 80/1 since it is easier to mix. Oh BTW, the Amsoil does have a smell to it.

I agree, we're having good results in our Kawasaki 2-cycles
at 75 or 80:1

I run it at 80:1 as well mainly because I run 4mixes. I haven't noticed the smell.

I run 100:1 in mine. All my 2 cycle and that include one Toro 21 inch. I can smell an exhuast difference in my stuff too, everything. I have Stihl equipment I use it in.

I run it at 80:1 as well. I have put about 7 gal. so far through a BR600 since new and it never misses a beat. Saber is great, I won't go to another 2 stroke oil.

Amsoil Saber says 100:1 right on the bottle and that's the ratio they intend for you to use regardless of what your equipment's manual states. Amsoil guarantees it and apparently it's designed to run at that ratio. So if they designed it to work at 100:1 and you run it at 50:1 then it's likely to smoke and put off more of a smell when mixed at 50:1. At 80:1 or higher it doesn't have much if any smoke and the smell is almost pleasant compared to other 2 stroke oils.

If Amsoil Saber mix is rated FD, then you may use it in a Red Max product. Red Max oil is rated FD. This is the latest, greatest rating. Most major manufacturers recomend a FD rated oil. Do yourself a favor and check the bottle. If it rates, then use it.

Yes, most certainly it is rated JASO FD. The oil can be used in any handheld piece regardless of what the manufacturer suggested ratio is. By the way, I don't know of any handheld OEM that recommends anything other than 50:1 now.

Why is that?????????

Because none of them have a bottle of oil with their name on it that is capable of being mixed at 80:1 or 100:1 without your equipment burning up.

Just wait a few years until a oil company starts bottling oil for Echo,Redmax, etc equivalent to Amsoil or Opti and then poof.............Now OEM's recommend a 100:1 ratio:hammerhead:

Or until the EPA steps in and requires it!!!!!!
