that is composite edging. Was trying to keep the mulch from washing into the porch and sidewalk. Not my favorite thing but how else could you do it?

Thanks for the compliments!

Dig and remove the dirt below, lowering the grade.

Take your spade edge shovel or your hand on an area that small and dig a little trench down a few inches before installing mulch. This should be done every year and you wont have to worry about the mulch washing out.

Looks good, big improvement.

That Bloodgood Maple will become waaayyy too big for that area. (6" from porch) Move it now while you have the chance.

I don't think it's a bloodgood. I looked into it when I bought it and talked to the nursery about this particular tree and it is supposed to be a dwarf. That tree is 4 years old so its a very slow grower. It will only grow a couple inches a year at the most according to the nursery. It does look a lot like a bloodgood though.

I don't know how much landscaping you do or what your budget on this project was but I think it could of been done better. I don't like the 90 degree intersection with the driveway, I would of made the bed edge flow with curves from the driveway back to the sidewalk and then back out into the yard and then have bump out into the yard in the front of the house. You followed the same lines of the sidewalk and the house. It should of had natural flowing lines. I also don't like the placement of the Japanese maple.
I don't know if this helps, but this is just what I saw from two pictures.
Best of luck
Scott

not gonna lie i usually dont like the composite edging or that type of mulch but it goes really well together... and ya the maple will be fine there for at least 7-10... nice job, well done
