I use a 32" Encore WB. Got it when I first started last year for $600, the motor lasted the whole season and blew on the last yard of the year. Put a new Briggs 12.5hp on it for $600 over the winter and it's good to go now. Right now I only do residentials, so it's perfect for what I do.

Charged $80 for the first mow. I was pissed when I saw it. She made it sound like it was 6 inches tall on the phone.

I did take it off after several passes around the yard, but it pulled fine and never bogged or slowed.

New trimmer rack today built by a friend of mine. He has built several of them now and it is a really solid rack. No spinning trimmers, heavy duty, lockable, overall very nice product.
$125 for a double rack and $150 for a triple.

How do you like that Echo SRM 225? Looks like an updated SRM 210 from the specs on the website. I like the right-hand handle better on the 210 than on my 251E. It's softer and fits in the trimmer rack easier. But I like the firmer left-hand grip of the 251E. Guess I'm hard to please, but I know what I like. Nice looking rig.

Yeah the 225 is the updated 210. I like the trimmer for the most part...I do however HATE the "Uturn" head on it though. I've had real problems with it if I need to remove the bottom piece to take out old line if need be, seems to never want to come apart. No complaints other than that.

Good deal. I'd like a stander too. It's a nice cross between a WB and ZTR.
LBLC_LCO
05-18-2009, 12:56 AM
Definitely. I don't need a ztr since I'm sticking with residential properties for now, I'll keep the 32" WB and try for a 48" stander.

Haven't tried it yet, but I don't think so. It would be really tight and I'd have to turn the Encore sideways. A new trailer is my next purchase next month. Getting a 6.5' x 12'.

How many accounts do you have? I was just wondering as it seems you have an VERY efficient setup. I like it a lot.

I didn't tell her a price over the phone. Well...I told her what it would typically cost for a yard in that neighborhood, but didn't give HER a price till I was there. I learned that real quick last year.

Well with the heat really kicking in I'm getting more calls now without advertising. Got the website listing on google pretty decent so anytime someone searches for lawn care in my city, I'm the first one to pop up. Already had about 4 calls saying "Well, I had a guy, but he's not showing up anymore." Was only a matter of time before it happened, too hot to mow for free.

I've used zero turns before. It did take a little bit of getting used to, mainly turning without tearing up the turf. Just have to pay attention.

Big improvement. Really cleaned the place up. I love jobs like that. They're a pain, but they sure look good when they're done.
One problem is, chances are the customers won't be up on maintenance. They haven't been maintaining it for years, so why would they start now? Hopefully this improvement will help them stay motivated to keep it nice.

Yeah I enjoy them as well, hot as hell today though so didn't really enjoy it much. The customer hasn't seen it yet so hopefully he will like it and start keeping up on the maintenance, or hire me. I'm hoping to sign him for weekly service, right now the "neighborhood kid" is cutting (see:scalping) his yard and does not trim.

I pulled all of them by hand. I don't have a license to spray. Even if I did, still would have probably pulled them.
