A friend that moved gave me a sample of grass which I transplanted to my yard over a year ago. My husband and I simply love the hartiness of it as it takes over and kills the clover and other junk grass. We would like to get more of the grass and seed the rest of our 3 acres but are not sure what type of grass it is. Is there somewhere I can look at pictures of grass to identify its type? I remember my friend saying she thought it was "Vietnam" grass. It is low maintainence. The root system is interlocking and the blades are thick. We have successfully transplanted various runners in other portions of our yard and it takes about 3-4 months to triple to quadrupal in area growth.

oh, and I live in central louisiana
have an outside dog, unfenced
on a hill, little or no shade until evening. four 10-yr old live oak trees in front (i REALLY need to get some grass growing under these trees...nothing but junk grass and they look like the grass has burned or dried out under trees)
3 small kids playing on huge wooden swingset

Sorry, I've not heard of Vietnam grass but then again I'm up here in Ohio.
If your grass is creating a network of underground roots (called Rhizomes) you could have either of the two Southern grasses; Zoysia or Bermuda.
And that grass around the trees that look dried out is simply some natural shade grass (fine fescue). Sometimes that grass is brown more than its green.
