What are the best stihl handhelds on the market? im looking to upgrade from all my troy-bilt/home depot products to all commercial stihl equip.

So the models that work best with less problems would be great!

Appreciate the help.:)

I have 90 and 100 trimmers. Depends on what you intend to use the equipment for. The FS100 is great because it is so light and powerful. But you can only ever use it as a trimmer. The 90 is a little heavier but you can change up the heads. Thats why I have both. As for a blower? The BR600 is pricey but worth every penny. I learned early on that better equipment makes a big difference in outcome of your work.
Most Stihl dealers around here are pretty knowledgeable and helpful. Go talk to one. Good luck and let us know what you get.

Buy a true 2 stoke trimmer and you won't have any regrets.

I have a 90r and a 110r trimmer. The both work great. I like using the 90 for trimming as it has plenty of power for it yet uses probably half of the gas. The 110 has more power and works great for the gearbox attachments. I use the br550 blower and have not had a problem with it, plenty of power although I never tried the 600.

Do you have any experience with the 4-Mix products?

I replaced a 2 stroke Stihl trimmer with a 4-Mix FS90, and have no regrets. It is a great piece of equipment.

FS90r and FS110r Are both awesome handheld trimmers the 110 gives you flexibility to change out the gearbox from a string trimmer to hedge clipper to pole saw to cultivator. As far as blowers go I have the BR600 and will buy another when the time comes to add another. Stihl makes the best equipment imo. :weightlifter::weightlifter::weightlifter::weightlifter::weightlifter:

Ive heard alot of great things about the br 600 so that will probably be my blower choice.

as for a trimmer probably a FS90r.
or FS80r

The fs80r great trimmer for the money it will work as hard as you will want it too. The br600 is the only way to go when its time to clean up .

Only one little bitty problem ....those silly little valves keep breaking and sticking in the top of the piston. Local shop has a lot of them and they consider the 600 junk. Climate is a factor but long term that engine will not hold up like a straight 2 stroke. Get the BR420 it is very solid.

the 420 has no power for a backpack blower. around here nobody is having any kind of valve problems at all. in fact i have never done a valve adjustment. i have 2-br600 and 5 fs110;s that are put through living hell. i would never buy another 2 stroke anything again. try a 4-mix unit and use stihl oil and 89 octane gas and i promise you they will make you alot of money.

are the valve problems with the blower or trimmer?

They're not "problems" but might need to be adjusted to keep the trottle running optimally, not what people make of it, it really takes seconds to do.

I've been on a bunch of stihl threads today.

They are excellent. I never have to run the 110 on full throttle, and I have the premium .105 string and it runs great. No problems out of it, starts easy and is great on gas. Can cut down small branches and sides of houses, lots of power, so be careful. The 550 is great, I got it two years ago when the 600 was considerably more and I didn't need all of that power, but the 550 still does it for me.

Now when I upgrade again I'll go with the 600 and the FS 130, but what I have is excellent now, if you are new you don't need all of that power if you are starting out. I used my 550 for a leaf job and it ran wonderfully.

I might sale and upgrade this year, maybe sooner if someone is interested.

Those actually suck. I had one and it kept locking in when I turned it a certain way. I returned several to lowes in a month and went and got a stihl.

the best piece of advice i can give you is buy stihl!:weightlifter: lol, if you dont, i think theres somethin wrong with you!!:hammerhead: but really...i actually run some homescaper series equipment, and i love it! thats what i started out with, and it still gets used and abused. i would stick to a true 2-cycle trimmer, they are so bulletproof! but for the blower, just get the valves adjusted every now and then if you cant do it yourself, and thats it. br600 all the way.
