Keep us updated on the pics... 5 acres is a big dude.
Is that your equipment or are you renting? I'm hoping to tackle a pond or two this summer.

The equipment belongs to my friend in the picture. The pond business has been slow of recent. He is in to a lot of cool stuff. I will post some more pix of some new toys he acquired recently.

This is only part of it. He is not short on iron. It's cool because if I'm not grinding trees there is usually something do.

Wow, that is some serious Big Iron. He must move some material to have a tracked crusher.
I like that box on the red Pete.

He is short on Power Tan machines. Although I must congratulate him on the lack of CAT equipment. Nice stuff. 5 acre pond that is a big hole in the ground.

You know the routine. This pond is in very flat country. We hardly ever doze a pond. Usually excavators and off road trucks.

Yeap, dig, dig, and dig some more!
how deep are you planning on digging that thing. I mean 5 acres, 6' deep is close to 50,000 yards, that a lot of freaking dirt!
Treemow
05-10-2009, 09:06 PM
It will be about 6 feet at the dam only. The rest will be 3 feet+. The top will extend further than what we have cleared. The customer asked that we complete what first agreed upon then come to terms on the rest. Yes I would say 40k yds.

yeah we try to get a depth of atleast 3' to keep the grass from growing in them so bad. what are you going to do with that mountain of dirt?
Treemow
05-10-2009, 09:50 PM
Most of it is going on the back of the dam. The rest will be used to build raised aprons around the spillway. We are leaning the slope out on the back of the dam. That is one reason the overflow pipe was so long. Correct on the grass also need to maintain at least 3 to 1 slope on pond banks.

Good looking dash 7 200, how do you like it? I am fond of the dash 7 400's but have only ran the 200 in a dash 6. Would like to get on the new dash 8's, in time I hope.

Oh boy! I'd go nuts! The dash 6's are workhorses for sure, but the cabs on the dash 7's are so much nicer. The pump output seems to be quite a bit better on the 7's, they're substantially faster. Couple things I don't like about 400-6 and 400-7 is stick breakout and lift capacity. The 400's I was running had medium sticks with Esco pin grabbers and 4 yard 72" buckets, that could definately play against both of those issues. However, I've heard from other guys who run them without couplers and smaller buckets that they have the same feelings about them, so I don't think it's just me. Maybe the dash 8's are better. Other than that, they are great hoes and they are definately fast. Tough to beat if you're just slinging dirt and they are excellent hoes for utility work that does not require ultra heavy lifting.

The 400 is nice. A good hoe man can keep up with 3 thirty ton off road trucks pretty easily. A few more screen pix and Hitachi 450.

Yes. It is a 15k Ramsey. It works fine if used in tandem with a 30k snatch block.

With all the rain we have had lately it's paid for itself this season alone. The problem used to be that when and where you stick it the only thing that will get it out is another machine. It saves a lot of time.

so with the block it can pull it out no problem? what about when its in deep and a pile of mud is building up behind it and it has to go up a steep hill would it work then you think? i get my deere stuck in some crazy azz places. i broke a 1 ton wrecker in half at the frame behind the cab the last time i got it stuck. thats a loooooong story
Treemow

With the block it has no problem. Yes ,I mean very stuck. It has a wireless remote so I just hook to a tree and tug as I help it with the machine.

Good looking 400. Short stick will handle that bucket like it's going out of style, especially with no added weight of a coupler. We slung buckets a little bigger than that with medium sticks and pin grabbers, things got hairy if you were in a hurry to load a truck, I can personally vouch for that.

Indeed. Short stick on this size machine keeps the arc and spin smaller, facilitates faster loading of trucks.

Yes sir. Actually we had one of three 400's on site with a short stick. I liked that hoe, it was the only dash 6 we had on that job and for loading trucks the short stick was great.
Problem is, company I worked for has 2 divisions, mass ex and underground. They're run as almost completely different companies, but we all shared out of the same equipment pool which makes no sense. The underground would get first pick on the hoes, they had all the newer stuff, we got them spec'd for underground when they hit the dirt crew. So, a good majority of the 400's we had, which was 25, had medium sticks, not the best for loading trucks.
I don't understand that incredibly tall hood on the new 400's though, they're about half as tall on the dash 6's and 7's. I know that isn't a highly looked over spot on a hoe, but a guy's gotta wonder what Komatsu stuffed under there that would need that much hood.
