I know it’s a little late to be asking but I was just in another forum area where people were talking about steel toe boots. To be honest I never thought about this.

I have been in business for about 4 or 5 years. 3 years ago I started hiring people. I have always said after 1 week I expect them to where boots. This allows them to get a paycheck so they can afford boots. Do any of you think I should make them start wearing steel toes? Personally I hate wearing them. After about 3 hours in the hot my feet start to kill me. I can see the safety aspect but I don’t know if I can expect someone to do something I hate or cant do.

By the way, we only mow grass. I got way to busy for trees and landscaping so its not like they are running a chainsaw anymore

what does a chainsaw have to do with steel toe shoes.
I have always used them and they are not to hot. But if you buy el-cheapo ones they do hurt after a while because they are not sized correctly to the user.

Even if they are just mowing just drop a trailer gate on your toes and see what damage is done.

If you're hiring prople, call your insurance agent and ask if there is a discount for making steel toes mandatory. I

live in them 14 hours a day, 6 days a week and am yet to have an issue...

By the way, most "steel toes" aren't even steel anymore.

What are they? And if there in a decent pair or boots you wouldnt even know your wearing them.

Yes, I walso wear steel-toe. Around $100 will get you a nice pair that are comfy and safe.

Steel toes are an absolute must. For everyone on the job site. Too many things to take off a toe or crush a toe.

Skip the steel toe shoes just more weight and that is very important long term.

No need for that light duty stuff your doing. I had always heard the horror story of having your toes cut off if something very heavy was to fall on them so it was nice to see myth busters test it. They did find in fact that was true but pointed out the weight to required to do it if you had no steel toes your feet would of been crushed and blown apart any ways.

You can not make all risks go away the chances of needing the steel are very light. On the other hand I think I got a fracture in my elbow today in a way iv not seen in 22 years of landscaping. My bad luck I found a dog leash with my mower today the blade got the rope part and tugged it super fast and the metal latch flew up and got my on my lazer in my elbow at like 100 mph plus. But still I do not plan on starting to wear elbow and knee pads for protection.
