If you were asked by one of your customers to invoice you through a website so they could pay you online... would you do it? What would it take to bring you there?

Quickbooks pro with intuit merchant services... they get the invoice in an email.. and simply click "pay" to pay...

If you mean letting a customer pull an invoice up by logging into your website.. you are talking a few thousand $ plus...

Let me ask it this way...

If one of your customers was using a new system that streamlined their payables by managing all of their invoices and payments online... Would you sign up to the web portal and invoice them online, if they asked you to?

Depends on if it cost you... the probability that other customers will do it... the amount of time it takes to send the bill through it... etc...

In this case, we are the invoicing/payment solution and the customers using it will be property managers. It will cost the contractor a 3% transaction fee to use our system only if their property manager pays them online. If they pay by cash or check, it will not cost anything.

Our prediction is that property managers will invite their contractors because of time saving benefits and that contractors will join them because they were invited. We designed it to be very simple so that the invited contractors could then manage their entire business online... but I guess we will have to see if our invitation prediction is even correct.

What do you think? Would you try it for 3% if your property manager asked you to? If not... why?

Yes, but only if the discount was only available for let's say 15 days from the invoice date. I take credit cards, there is no benefit to your system to me.

No I wouldn't do it unless it was a very large customer

What do you mean discount? Is our 3% less then what you are paying now?

I don't pay a different price at a store whether I pay cash or credit, none of the employees hand over the fee either, at least not directly.

So where does that fee come from, one might ask?
I say it seems to me credit cards are a thing for big corporations and their banks, my answer.

Credit cards are crazy... but the reason we built our solution is because we believe more and more customers will demand it. For example, I never carry cash anymore and I haven't written a check in years. When I go to the store I always use my credit or debit card... and even though the stores eat the fees, you know they just mark up their prices to cover it. As a customer though, I don't even think twice about that. I have pulled up to a gas station before that doesn't accept credit card (very rare) and gotten right back in my car to go to one that does.

I believe the same thing will happen in the service industry. More and more contractors will begin using solutions like ours because it simplifies their customer's paperwork and allows them to pay with credit card. However, in the end, the contractor will simply mark up his prices and the customer will pay the fees.
