I know this probably isn’t the place to write this but I figured we all need a laugh every once and awhile….I hope you don’t mind me putting it here cause I just had to tell someone lol.

I hired a new guy about 2 weeks ago. He finally learned how to trim and edge the way I like things to be done. I figured it was time to teach him how to mow so I started him on the 36 inch scag. He mowed several lawns and was starting to get it down. Yesterday I got a call from one of my old customers and said he wanted me back this year. When we got there we found the back lawn about 2 feet tall. Of course there was a fence so I mowed the front with my sit down, had one guy trimming, and put the new guy in the back on the walk behind.

When the front was done (trimmed, mowed, and cleaned) we went to the back yard to see how the new guy was doing. He striped the heck out of the back yard…but…….HE FORGOT TO TURN THE MOWING DECK ON lol.

I about fell out in the back yard I was laughing so hard. He said he was nervous because it was a complicated yard and has concentrating on how to cut it and making sure he didn’t hit anything and completely forgot to start the deck…..of course it was nice that he didn’t get any clippings in the flower beds lol.

In his defense, we wear headphones. I also have 2 way radios so the ear piece is in the head phones so we can communicate with each other. There is a good chance he might not have noticed the noise change from the deck BUT he should have noticed no grass was coming out of the discharge.

After turning bright red from embarrassment he mowed it again with the mower deck engaged. Of course he knows he will be hearing about this one for a looooong time lol

I got to ask…does anyone else have any good stories like this.

Not mowing but I was using a Billy Goat overseeder yesterday, trying to get some seed down before the rain. I did an area of newly graded topsoil probably 25 feet by 30 feet in the back yard of a house. Got about halfway done and realized I hadn't set the deck down so the machine was not making any cuts. :hammerhead: Quickly adjusted the deck and went over the whole area again before anyone noticed :cool2:

I had the same thing happen with a new guy. The only difference was this guy had "years" of experience and could run any piece of equipment we had. He was always second guessing me because I was only 18 at the time and he was close to 40. It really pissed him off that I was his boss. I put him on a 1-1.5 acre lot to cut with a walk behind. This was way before jungle wheels he started mowing and I watched him do the last half laughing my ass off. He got done and started telling me he could mow circles around anyone we had so I asked him how to turn on the blades. He proceeded to tell me that when ever the motor was running the blades were on. Boy was he pissed when I showed him how to turn them on. And before anyone jumps down my throat about training the guy was a know it all and said he had run John Deere walk behinds for years. So I took his word for it. He quit the next day.

Me and this one guy fertiziled the wrong house. It was more like half of the house, then we saw what we did and high-tailed it out of there
