Okay, I'm just starting out with a soon to be purchased 5x10 trailer. My Cherokee isn't exactly the most fuel efficient, plush, nor torquiest vehicle around but it's what I have to work with starting out. It's sitting on 6" of lift and 33" tires which doesn't concern me the least bit since I currently am an advisor at a car dealership(Ford thankfully, lol) but the height of my hitch does. It's almost waist high and haven't seen a drop hitch that would, IMO, tow safely. Any ideas? Are you guys finding big drops or having them custom built or reinforced? I surely don't wanna find out the hard way, lol. Thanks in advance.

Go to any 4x4 shop or a trailer shop. If they don’t have them in stock they can order it for you. I am running a 2008 Chevy 2500 diesel 4x4 that’s slightly jacked up. I had to do the same thing.

I pull with a lifted 4x4 Tacoma..only a 3 inch lift, but still had to get a drop hitch. Check a trailer shop and they will have one.

Well if you were pulling a bigger trailer then you would only need about a 4 inch drop. But since your gonna pull a single axel with probably small tires your gonna need 6 at least. But remember the further you put it down and the longer it is the more levrage its gonne have, so watch ur tounge weight.

I have to use a 6in up on my truck to get my trailer level. Just stop by a trailer store & they will have what you need.

Don't Ford notice that their advisor isn't driving a FORD?

You can get a drop bar for out of your hitch - or if it's worth it to you, you could have the lift removed from the Cherokee and return it to stock. Not all that expensive to do that from what I've understood.

I do have to admit, I really thought by the title of this thread I was going to see a photo of the carnage of a hitch that had fallen off your tow veichle :dizzy:

I'm glad this wasn't what happened...:waving:

Removing the lift and putting it back to stock would be quite the PITA. I've done a rear axle swap, various cutting, bracing, etc. It's also got locked diffs front and rear. It was built to offroad with comfort and drivability second, haha. I'm gonna use it the way it is until I put a little money away and find a dedicated tow vehicle.

Btw, thanks for the input guys.

Well I hate to say this but if the kid who wasted the money customizing that POS
would have left it stock, this wouldn't now be a problem.

With that same money, someone could have bought a 3/4 ton pickup truck.
Which is what you need for this line of work anyhow, that Chokeree won't last under load.

Some people have hobbies that they really enjoy and the total invested in that POS is less than $5k since I do all my own work.
Reading comprehension must not be your strong point since in the beginning I said it's all I had to work with at the moment. But thanks for the negativity. You're welcome to exit the thread at any time.

I have an 8" drop that I have somehow acquired, not sure one day it was in my garage? Anyway, it is a totally solid piece and it is really strong, would be plenty for what you are going to tow. Try to find a solid hitch not ones that look like square tube.

Im not sure what drop size hit I have but its adjustable I can move it around it goes on my f350 with a 8 inch lift which tows everything from a bobcat to a small trailer.

buy a new truck, and if its lifted, get a drop hitch, but jeeps are junk for basically everything

Wow, thanks for reasuring me that all forums have their resident idots. Being in the car biz myself for years I can pick apart whatever POS you're driving right now. Wanna play? Reading compehension and forum etiquette definitely wasn't on your agenda.

I love being the new guy:)

2006 Chevy 2500 HD Duramax Diesel, its got the LBZ engine, has no problems except for less mpg than the earlier generation Duramax's due to emission standards, if you can find a problem with that, let me know.

Do you want me to start with the injectors(yes, it's still an issue) or do ya wanna save that for last? They"ve come a long way with that engine but it still has issues with fuel delivery. How many steering shafts have you had replaced or lubed for the knock when turning? Excessive slack in the driveline which is normal. Wheels bearings failing with stock wheels and tires. Don't get me started on the trims pieces but that's just cosmetics.

Seeing you are taking jabs at everyone else, you are in the car business and work on cars as a hobby but you didn't know you can get a drop hitch?

Same Tacoma 4x4 3" OME Lift and I think my drop hitch is 6?

The only ones I've seen available aren't long enough and the ones I have seen are booty fabbed and look a "tad" unsafe. So to answer your question, no. An 8" drop is not big enough. I'm gonna buy an 8" and have it modified at a weld shop.

Guess I missed this....Actually A LOT of people lift Tacomas. They are great trucks for hitting up the trails and all around off-roading.
