I posted earlier that I believe it would be a fitting tribute to Eric ELM to use the "Sad News" lawnsite thread as a column in TURF Magazine ... with a couple of photos. I'm only going to do this if the majority of you are comfortable with this. Please respond. Thanks, Jim Kendrick

I don't think anyone would have any objections. It's a great idea. For a person that was willing to help anyone, it would only be fitting.

Jim,

I think that a tribute to Eric in Turf Magazine would be fitting to a person with the knowledge and willingness to help any one, and to give an honest opinion of a piece of equipment that may be considering.

Unlike some, Eric would only comment good or bad from his experience.

yes i definitly agree, also how about a brief biography and something about his business, like a lot of times you will see a article on one business.

He is considered by many to be a "giant in the industry" so I believe a tribute to him in your fine turf industry publication would be most fitting.

Scotty ...

Yes, a bio of him and his business would be necessary. Can you help me on this? If not, maybe Chuck can. Or, anyone else out there? We have a couple of weeks -- which go by fast when we're all so busy.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

I wholeheartedly endorse this idea. Eric was a true leader of Internet messaging for lawn servicing and he will be missed by many.

I am leaning towards a profile with something like this as a note:

This profile was requested by esteemed members of the green industry in memoriam of ________.

With some kind of reference to his selfless contributions to both forums of which he belonged.

It sounds really wordy but I think that you get what I mean.

Rick.

 I, like so many find this news hard to belive. I do belive that to be called home at Easter time would be maybe the best time to go home. To be near such a time can only mean that he was truly a special person to so many and meant a lot by what he done. All our thoughts and prayers are with Eric and his family.
It does mean so much that so many will continue to live through the gift of Eric. Thank you Eric!

Jim,

I don't think you will get any negitive responses form this forum.
As one that was around during them lawnicure and hall of forums days I can't remember a post directed negitivly tward anyone, a few products that he didn't like yes, but he backed them up with facts.

I would like to see a tribute to the man who gave so much to others without asking for anything in return.

JimK,
I believe that Paul has talked to Eric's family about this. As I recall, they feel that they should have the opportunity to approve what is being published. I have composed something that is being sent to them for review. As soon as we hear back, it will be emailed to you.

Excellent idea. Many professions always pay tribute to other workers who die, even if you don't know them. Like my full time profession of firefighter, we always take time to honor other firefighters who pass on throughout the whole country. Word gets out through web sites, trade journals, e-mails, etc. The green industry certainly has all of those resources that we could honor and remember our landscape professionals within our industry. Go for it.

When I picked up my mail today I threw it in the truck and went to work so I didn't get to look through it, But as I was driving one of my employees was reading turf and said "You better watch out this guy is good" so I said let me see what you are talking about, I Immediately saw that it was Eric and I said yes he was great at striping and I explained to them that he just resently passed away and the article was a tribute to a man that helped everybody and in return he asked for nothing. Turf magazine what you did was great and you continue to be the best magazine in the buisiness.

I race cars and we have a national publication that goes to over 50,000. Every month they have a listing of those lost by crashes or natural causes. I don't don't see any problem with a tribute to someone that was so highly regarded.
