Ok, so I've got a grading job coming it and it requires a walkbehind skid and I am trying to determine on what machine to use, I'd like to use a Bobcat walkbehind, but there are a few bad things I've heard and can somewhat assume from them:
1. the controls dont look like they'd be all that fun to run and from what I've heard and read arent all that great..
2. the ride on pad sucks imo
3. farther away to pick up and return to the dealership
But the only pro's I see to it, I wanna run one.
So my question, are Bobcat walkbehinds really all that great? what are your opinions on them?

I've never used anything that small but doesn't toro make one too? Atleast the one I saw looked fun to play on...

Yes, toro makes one..
The toro is an okay machine for strictly grading, but for hogging dirt and being able to grade at a high rate of speed, the Boxer was the machine. imo

It is, but I dont know of a rental yard that rents one, if there is one, its farther away than Bobcat..
But I'll check into it, I really wanna run one of them..

Cause I dont like tractors, yall dam rednecks think tractors are gods gift to this earth:laugh:, But seriously, I just dont like tractors and it'll prolly be the same price to rent the tractor from that wanna be rental yard as the walkbehind and I'd rather have the walkbehind..

I'll do laps around your little bobcat walk behind with my kubotie and box blade. you just can never do anything the easy way can you?

Jeebus if you're going with a walk-behind you might as well get a PHD and a walk-behind.
Pine Handled Digger and a wheelbarrow. You walk behind a wheelbarrow. Get to work, little redneck! It'll teach you to appreciate equipment.

You dont wanna see this backyard, its freakin horrible..
And I've had just as much time in the trench as on a machine.. being on the ground is fun sometimes to. But did I mention I am bring in 10 ton of fill and a pallet and half of sod?
As far as the Kubota, chris, you may be able to run circles around me with a box blade, but thats you, I just cant get that dam thing down(dont take that literally:laugh:)

I've had my bobcat mt55 for 2.5 years, its a real time saver. The controls are easy to figure out, takes about minutes. The ride on platform is great on hard surfaces but it will tear up turf and it'll dig down into loose soil if your grading. For grading work I use the soil conditioner (Harley Rake), if you've never seen one in action look it up on youtube.

Keep your eyes off the bouncing entertainment while you're operating, gentlemen! You could kill somebody! And certain ones ought to control the bouncing entertainment a little better. They could put an eye out with those things. Not that I'd mind. I could still look with the other eye.

Junior, if you are set on a bobcat mini......do it and walk your self to death. I am using a mini this next week and my mini of choice is the ditchwitch 650.......nice riding platform, good ground clearance are the reasons that machine is my top choice.

Really? We don't have a big Home Depot presence up here being this is the Menards home base but I do see more and more Home Depot's getting closer. I don't have anything against the walk-behinds, just haven't come across the need for one having the Polaris. Jr, beg, borrow or steal(well don't do that) a RC 30 for as long as you can. Keep an open mind with it and think smooth and you will have a productive time.

Jr, the older MT's had crappy controls ( two levers) Now they have a much easier user friendly design. Ditchwitch should have two levers, Toro is a tin can. Stay away from a gas engine on other models. Loud as crap.... Ask your bobcat dealer for a demo??? You need to find your saleman and build up a relationship with him if you haven't already...

We lived in Granville before we moved, my brother lives in Johnstown. and my Dad grew up in Johnstown, mom grew up in Utica.

I am not set on one as it sits right now, I just wanted someones opinion cause if everyone says they suck(on my list there are more cons than pros right now) I am not going to rent one..

I've yet to run a ditch witch, I've heard good things about them though, but no one rents them around here, other than Ditch Witch, and thats again, farther away than Bobcat..
And our HD doesnt rent them. In fact, our HD doesnt rent anything? ;)

I wanna run one so bad, since Dad is off work, I am going to call around and maybe just break down and see if I can rent one from a rental yard bout 45mins from here

They wont demo **** to me, neither me nor Dad has yet to get so much as a free key chain from them(except the one I stole off the rental key:laugh:) I kinda know why I havent though, cause I've always got a CAT hat on everytime I walk in, but what do they expect, they wont give me a Bobcat hat..
And as it sits, we have a deal set up with a salesman, who took over doing some of the things his Dad did at Bobcat before he got laid off, so on drop off and pick up we deal solely with him. Also, I've spoke with him before on prices of used and new machines so I knew what I needed to shoot for.. so we are in contact all the time, if he calls you back.. :realmad: But he'll get you anything you need when you need it..
I borrowed a Kanga from a landscaper friend to backfill an addition that was real tight. Wasn't worth the fuel to pick it up. Completely worthless in my opinion. I used it for about 20 min. and parked it and made due without it.

I was at the place where I rent walkbehinds from, and they had one(a kanga) for sale and it happened to have the keys in it, so I took it for a spin around the yard, that was most definetly a sorry machine from just driving it around..

RC30's don't compare the best with a walk behind skid if you ask me, because they don't fit around in a tiny yard as well as they look like they would.. but if it will fit.. I vote for the 30... they are fun and do everything well except lift anything

If you want you can come to my place and run my mt, I live on the north side of buckeye lake. You can see if you think it'll do the job, bring your ole man. Just don't buy the dingo, it is a tin can, I demoed a new 525 next to what is now my mt55 for two weeks. I ran the hell out of both machines and as soon as the bucket bent on the dingo I took it back and bought the bobcat. The ASV and DW are both awesome machines but there are no dealers close. Oh, and bobcat in reynoldsburg recently had over 200k stolen in equipment, since then they've been a little tighter on things.
If your interested I'll give you my email.

Thats a great offer and I really thank you for the thought, but I got bad news, we no longer live in Ohio. I really wish we did, but again, thank you for the awesome offer..
And about the Bobcat in Reynoldsburg, WOW! 200k? Our Bobcat dealer here in SC only had a machine or 2 stolen, 200k would empty there yard..

go for the dw junior, I own 2 and used to own a mt the dw will outwork and outrun the bobcat any day of the week. we actually sold our bobcat 763 in order to get another sk650 because we never used it because the dw is so much more efficient.
