thinking about putting some lawn myths in my newsletter this summer. for example, cutting the lawn shorter means i won't have to mow again for a longer period of time than if i were to only cut a short amount off (by the way does anyone have a study or research paper that proves this).

can you guys think of some other good ones to put in the letter? studies that back up the info is even better, but not necessary. just looking for a different point of view to hit some of the myths i miss.

thanks

How about:
'It is best to water at night so that the water doesn't evaporate as fast as in the daytime'. Wrong - it increases the risk for foliar diseases.
'Don't water in the middle of the day, the water will magnify the sun's rays and burn the plant leaves'. Water can't act as a magnifying glass.
'If you kill all of the grubs you won't have a mole problem'.Moles eat many other insects besides grubs.
'If the grass seed label says to use 5 lbs per 1000 ft squared than 10 lbs per 1000 will give you a much thicker lawn.' If you use too much seed there will be too much competition for available resources and the entire stand of grass will be weaker than if you used the appropriate rate.

Watering frequently is good for turf. Wrong. Less frequent but deeper watering irrigation regimens promote deeper root growth resulting in less summer stress for cool season grasses, but also helps prevent fungus outbreaks.

Kosar,

Here is a newsletter I did back in 06 with some T and F questions. Went over really well.

Kinda goes along with your myths but is more about mowing height.

I preach and preach to my customer to raise their decks. When they do...they love me!

BTW...how did the Turfco seeder work out for you this spring? Did you get much work with it this spring?

Instead of focusing on myths, why not focus on common problems you see, like knowing how to recognize drought stress. Dealing with pet spots, or proper mowing height.

Nice newsletter. I just have 1 question. You have problems with landfills accepting yard waste and clippings in your area? We don't have any problems getting rid of clippings or yard waste.

rodney, works well. had to replace the belt, but that will happen with normal wear and tear.

thanks

If I were you, I'd be careful about calling pesticides "safe".

I'd say "lower risk" or something.

Nitrogen from an organic source is better, because it's organic. What?

Turfgrasses take up N as nitrate or ammonium, no matter what the source.
