Detroit area is toast...
What areas in the south are good for cutting?
Any good prospects for core aeration in the south?

I've never heard of anyone doing core aeration down here. May be an open market, may be a hard sell. I think that anyone in Florida would agree with me that it's a tough competitive environment to start a business.

Anyone cutting in Mississippi? Alabama? or northern Florida?
How much can you expect to get for 1/2 acre properties?
I have 3 acres in Drew Mississippi that is free and clear... am I crazy to relocate in the delta? Currently I am living and cutting in the Detroit area.

I made the move during Christmas from St. Clair SHores to Ashland, MS. Pop 500. Hour east of Memphis. Dude in Ashland is tearin an acre up for $40 on his rider. Not kidding either. It sounds like Memphis is about $30-$40 with their quater acre and half acre lots.
I dropped the lawns for more handyman type stuff. I was fortunate enough to have a brother in law that knows everyone.
This yankee just hasnt come to grips with those prices for the lawns though. At least not with this heat thats coming.
PS. I love it down here and will be callin it home for a long time.

thanks for the info...
cause this season in Detroit area (se oakland county) sucks big time.... getting $20 for anysize lot here is challenging...
so $30-$40 for acre lots sounds good to me...

If you are going to bring your northern union loving liberal attitudes with you stay the hell up north!
If you want to come south and live and believe in the right of people to work without a stink-in union and people should make their own way, come on down.
I have a lot of northern rebel friends who just got sick and tired of that northern mind set.
I know that's not want you ask about but that's my 2 second rant about the crap that's destroying our country right now.

I live in Mobile Alabama, and the market here is pretty darn good. We still have a strong economy (currently ranked as one of the strongest local markets in the country), and there is plenty of work to be had. I know a guy who just strated early last year and already has 50 residential and 4 commercial accounts. He charges about 45 dollars for 0.5 acre resi, much more for commercial. There are TONS of guys in the business here though. I cut part time and turn down work regularly; I just don't have any more time. $40 for .25-acre yards in my own neighborhood. Pretty good since I don't have to drive. Less than an hour in and out. People here are some of the nicest anywhere. GREAT place to live and work! Hope that helps.

If the hot doesn't bother you ....then come on down. We work 12 months out of the year. I think we only missed maybe around 3 weeks total this year and that was days here and there. The economy is still strong in our area. The winters are getting warmer and it is an excellant time to do landscaping and irrigation installs. We do about 70% commericial so those site are visited every week for something. Like resturants and hotel want ot be neat all the time.

I like year round stuff, but down here there is a lot of saturation, but there is plenty to do.

Am located in Destin Florida inbetween Panama City and Pensacola. Would not want to try and start up here now. Phone calls are few and far between for decent work. Lots of price shoppers. Have seen a few transplant companies from Michigan this year. One from your neck of the woods. Motor City Mowers. As far as pricing goes Florida is a right to work state. That means you have the right to work two jobs
