Hey all. New to the forums and website as of tonight! I have spent about 3 hours on here just reading away.

I love lawn care, personally live on 5 acres and mow, trim, and maintain about 2 and a half of it on a weekly/biweekly basis. It's a huge hobby of mine and recently I have found interest in turning it into a business. About a month ago I decided to go ahead and start working towards this.

My primary question in this thread is to find out what you all (who have had successful flyer hand-outs) would advise me to include on my flyers. From what I have read, door-to-door handouts are more successful; So in order to keep printing and advertising expense down, I plan on doing this.

Having done graphic design and a little bit of marketing before, I realize that it is very important to have company logo branding all over the place. I plan on taking flyers, business cards, and yard signs to different convenient stores, etc., in the same areas that I hand out flyers in.

I am looking for any tips, or things to avoid, when handing out my flyers, and just in general with starting my business. I have attached my logo that I put together. It's very simply, but gets the job done. While I believe that quality and message of a logo is very important, I believe that simply getting the logo out and seen plenty is equally - if not more important than logo design. Let me know what you think though!

My last few questions are; One, where can I acquire a license for lawn care in the Oklahoma City area if I need one?, Two, how necessary is insurance?, and Three, where do I get this kind of insurance and what is it called?

Thanks so much for the help! I am very motivated to work hard and succeed in what I am trying to do here.

Do a search on flyers. This question comes up at least once a week lol.

As far as insurance, yes it is very important. Anything can happen from knocking an a/c of its base with a mower to flinging a rock with a trimmer and breaking a window or taking some kid’s eye out. It’s not that expensive and almost any insurance company offers it. Call who ever you have insurance through now and ask them about it.
