I spotted my first crabgrass of the season here. Grand Rapids. Temp about 76 at 7pm, May 19th. However it was in a lawn that had been badly neglected was very thin and had not had weed or crabgrass control for years. The new crabrass plants were under a quarter inch tall.

Good eye bud -- I saw some today too the same size. (Des Moines) Those little b's were growing along curbs where homeowners must have used a "Ditch Witch" to edge their lawn.:laugh: Most lawns around here won't have crabgrass until mid June (except for bare dirt areas). We're still applying pre, but it looks like a good year for Q4. :waving:
Crabgrass has been up here for a month or more. Saw the first around the middle to end of March in a yard that is very thin and almost no turf. But it has been a warm spring in Alabama.

I took this photo Saturday, May 16 while treating a school lawn (my first time there) for broadleaf weeds. Like yours, this one has had no fertilizer or herbicides in about four years. Obviously, the three-way I sprayed will have no affect on the crabgrass. The plan for the rest of this year is reduce competition from broadleafs while improving the health and vigor of the remaining grass - push it with water and fertilizer get it to fill in.
I am about 75-80 miles south of Riggle.
Not the best photo, I realize. Unfortunately, there are several bare areas the size of a car in this lawn where crabgrass will likely overtake for this year. I am trying to help them look ahead to next spring's expected condition and plan of attack while making sure we are dealing from a position of strength more so than this spring. The 3-way application they just had me make is a step in the right direction. Turning on the available irrigation, using beter mowing practices, and fertilizing at least a couple times a year should help. Fall overseedimg would be fantastic but may be out of reach.148725
