I had a customer call me today and ask if i was mowing his lawn this afternoon. The reason he called is because he said the Turf Dr was going to spray his yard this morning and the Turf Dr said i needed to wait until about 3 to cut the grass after he has sprayed. The question is would you tell someone to cut there grass after you spray in the morning??

Waterfast is different than assimilated IMHO. I would recommend they wait at least 24 hours before they mow. But my opinion isn't based on a university study.

It probably would be OK. The label probably says 24 hours. I sprayed a new customer's lawn and he cut it within one hour. Weed control was still excellent. What is the difference cutting after spraying or spraying right after mowing, same amount of leaf surface ends up with herbicide.

I will disagree. It is best to wait before cutting so the Herbicide is moved into the plant completely. Spraying first leaves move leaf surface area for the plant to absorb the herbicide and gives a better application. I like to spray weeds at least 3 days after a fresh cut.

i agree 100% w/ric.
more leaf more surface for app. also 3 days after cut gives the weeds a chance to show more leaf and allows several days for the chem to trans-locate into the plant b-4 next cut.
unfortunatly we don't always get that opportunity when running production customers have different cutters on diff days. that's why you guarantee the work

Ric, Ideally I like to have the lawn 4-5 inches when I spray, more leaf surface covered more herbicide to the roots, better control. However I hardly ever run into ideal. I have had enough experience that I am willing to spray under far from ideal conditions and not worry too much. I prefer to spray under less than ideal than come back. If a customer's mowing schedule and mine conflict, I will tell customers let me spray, mow high, and if weeds are a problem call. In the last 5 years I do not recall getting a call.

Am I missing something here?
If he is a current customer he shouldn't have any weeds.
If he doesn't bag clippings the fert. will not be disturbed. (liquid or dry)
If he allows turf to dry (hours) no noticable decrease would be seen.
Don't get me wrong I recommend following the label etc.
But, don't we have enough to do without worrying over details like blade lenght, surface area and fresh cuts.
Yes, I would tell the client its OK to mow after it has dried. IMHO

I personally do not like exposing myself to pesticides that someone else has applied. The label will tell you, but if you dont have the label. you dont know what chemical was applied.

Sorry Garydale
I guess I am not as perfect as you. But then I do not use pre emerge because I believe it root prunes the desirable turf.

Ric,
I gave up on being perfect back in the 60's and went with common sense.

Yes, you are missing something. The poster is not the sprayer...the Turf Dr is. The poster is cutting it, not the homeowner.
