If you are seeing Green-Yellow-Green or Green-Brown-Green then to the best of my knowledge it is stress. Plants have a wonderful survival mechanism. They will hold on longer than we expect just for survival of the species. We had a very cold winter followed by a bad drought yet just this week as we get tropical down pours they are all coming alive again.
BTW Hibiscus are famous for the Green-Yellow-Green leaf going down the stem. This is a sign of stress that many plants show but is more pronounced on Hibiscus.
