Had a sub-contractor tell me he needed $100.00 per hour with a 2hr minimum for his L35 Kubota Backhoe with an operator. I thought this seemed a little on the high side. I was thinking more along the lines of $60-$75/hour. Not to mention, I don't think you would be getting a very expirienced/skilled operator.

Is this the going rate? I thought it was high, but I could be wrong.

Opinions please...

BTW: for those not familier with an L35, its is 35hp with a 3pt hoe.

is he legit? does he have general liability and workmans comp. how far does he need to travel to get to your jobsite. does he tow with a dump truck or one ton. way to many variables to say if he is high or low. i don't charge thaat much hourly but i do charge a 4 hour minimum.

Sounds a little low to me...

Insurance/operator/travel, etc gets expensive in a hurry.

How much to rent one and run it yourself?

heck no im not kidding. your two mowers have two operators on them to. well if your are just banking on the $$ why do you still run a 12.5' trailer weekend warrior?

I am with you, we dont bill out a T190 for that much..

junior i knew i would like you some day. but i dont know...... a t-190 i think should be around 50 or 45. i will run my 332 for 70, have run it for 100 plenty of times (but i know im high) have ran it for 350 an hour!!!! (very risky job no one else had the balls to do). but that 332 with a one yard bucket will just straight up move some dirt. now a little beotch 40xt wheel machine i wouldnt even waste my time trying to get some work done with that kind of machine.

50? Please, thats just a freakin insult man.. We bill the T190 out at $75 and our competitors have went up sense then. I wont even hook up the trailer to go do a job for $50 an hour(well, maybe right now cause its slow as hell, but it better be one dam good job)

And as far as the size of machine, it all depends on what your doing. our rented T190 will run circles around your on its side 332 backfilling pools cause yours is way to dam big, plus its on its side..

michigans a little diffrent then other states though. stuff is slow right now.

People have no concept what so ever, on whats involved in moving a machine! They dont see you hitching up the trailer, loading.chaining,binding,fueling,greasing,etc. They just call and like magic we show up. I do have a 4 hour minimum @ $75. but i dont get excited about a 4 hour job. $ 300. is not a lot of money for all that work!

I'm trading work with a friend here. I don't know what backhoe he has, but he's $125/hour with a 3 hour minimum. I make that as a solo operator on at least half my mowing accounts (minus the hourly minimum), so I have no problems respecting his price.

Pricing is subjective around the country. I have a deere that specs out like a l35. I get $85hr with a 2 hr min for tractor and $50 transport fee. I charge more for certain attchments. With the economy it wouldn't suprize me to see guys hungy charging less. Remember you get what you pay for.

$75.0 per hour for our T-190 min. I believe this is probably not enough when you think a $15 operator, taxes, insurance, truck to pull it to the site, the tickets from the DOT guy who pulls you over on the way to the site, fuel, new tracks every 1000 hours :dizzy:

I charge $65.00 to $80.00 for any of my tractors or skid loader. How I come up with the $80.00 an hour is if I bid the job and it takes less time. Of course there is times I make less than the $65.00 an hour but not often. I do charge a two hour minimum plus to come out unless the machine is within a couple miles and I can drive it there.

Wow, I am surprised there are 3 pages already. It got pretty off topic, but back to the origional topic.

The jobsite is literally one mile from where he keeps his tractor. He pulls it with 3/4 ton Chevy. We'll just says he's "somewhat" legit in regards to insurance, workmans comp, ect.

Since I can rent a similar John Deere for the entire day for about $230.00, I'll be telling him to stick it. lol.

Not related to this particular thread although many years loading and un-loading my Kubota L 48 and a Deere 710 prior to that,,, I just wanted to show you I traded in the L 48 for this 45 HP Case with factory cab... This winter the long (1600 ft) driveway will be much easier to plow,,

If you have experience, then that's the way to go. But bear in mind that a veteran operator can do the same work as a do-it-yourselfer in a fraction of the time.

Yeah, I have experience running a tractor with a front end loader, probably more than the joker that this guy would have sent out for $100.00/hour. lol

Very nice! I have looked close at those case factory cabs, high quality and i really like the layout of the levers and controls. They put some thought into that series. Whats she weigh?

I'm really not sure what the weight is, I do know that both rears are filled with rimguard at 588 pounds each.

You go ahead and continue to lowball yourself and encourage other operators to lowball other operators then... that should really help. My 12' works fine. Sometimes I just wish it was bigger. If I wanted one bad enough, money is not an issue. Weekend warrior, haha. Not so much and at least I am not acting like a keyboard cowboy!

oh thats a new one, well you do work another full time job if i recall back from the michigan thread right? im not sure and im not gona go back to look. so that makes you a weekend warrior in my book.

The guys that I know around here (oklahoma) that excavate dont do a flat "per machine hour" bid on every job they do. 100 per machine hour might not be outrageous depending on what he is doing and how deep he needs to do it. Or how likely he thinks he is to break something on his machine. I would get some competitive bids from some local guys and see what they charge to do the same job. Just a thought.

$100. + pwr hour for a 307 or larger excavator is fine. The thread question was rate for tractors & skid steers.

Good memory except it's a part time job that I work on weekends. Let me ask you... does your medical, vision, and dental insurance cost you more than $8 a week? Cause that's what I pay. Do you even have those types of insurance? Does your lawncare company provide you with 3.5 weeks of paid vacation? Probably not. I don't do any lawncare work on weekends. Oh, and I forgot to clarify that I charge more than $45 per hour for either of my mowers, not both at the same time. I don't think many people read your book.

On the other end of the scale, I seen in the local ad paper TLB work, anything, advertised for $25 hr and one for $30, Hungry times. I would get another bid/quot if i was you. The line between jobs=$$ get blurry for some guys. All I have had is usual repeat customers. It is slow, but I know I need more than $25-30/ hr to even justify any movement.

Wow hard enough around here to get $120/hr for a 200 sized excavator and no machine in this city is sitting around everyone is going full out.

Where do I sign up?

Lots of construction equipment is sitting in the yards here. Grass has to be maintained, so we have enough fertilizing to keep us busy. Tractor service has slowed down some, fields we were cutting twice per year are now cutting once.
