Gas or diesel?

Throttle position sensor maybe? I don't know if there's an actual mechanical way to set your idle rpm's, everything is ran by the computer.

Could just be a cluster problem does it sound like its running at 300rpm? I don't know that you could hardly keep in running at those rpms it would be running like hell.

Try "resetting" the computer. Disconnect the battery for a hour or so, reconnect, and see what happens. I had a Jeep Liberty do a simular thing once and did that - it's ran fine since. Dunno if it'll help, but trying is free.

G'luck...

It could be a throttle position sensor. How many miles on the truck?

If it's a thottle body, then it could be in the fuel injector. When we built our 383 it idled so bad that it would stall too. Eventually we took into the dyno shop and got it tuned and wholla, it ran perfect. 400hp.

im almost sure that truck has a iac sensor on it, ask a good parts store or just call your chevy dealer to find out but thats what should control the idle speed. iac (idle air control)

did it stall at all a few weeks ago mine was stalling and running at 2-300 rpm-turned out the intake needed cleaned-check that? Now mine idles about 5-6 which is still a bit low imo

it went back up to like 600ish this morning and i did nothing too it.....i just blew out the air filter and checked it all out...changed nothing....id like to to idle more like 900...when it first starts it'll sit @ around 1000 for a minute and then drop....

My friend has a Dodge Ram 4.7 V8 that was idling really funny a while back. It stalled on him a couple times because it idled down so low. I think he said it was some kind of active emission control (computer related) messing up and had the ECM reflashed.

does it idle rough could have a piece of carbon holding egr valve open. also idle air control motor could be sticking. throttle position sensor is probobly not it a bad reading on that sensor will not cause low idle. take it from an ase certified master tech

Give it a hard whack with a hammer in the engine block to let it know you mean business.

When on traffic don't let it idle that slow too long ,It might not be fast enough to make the oil pressure to lubricate
