Hello,

I have an old JD 165 with a FB 460 12 hp Kawasaki that is great for certain individulas to use on the flat greens. The problem I have is the unit does not start at times without opening the hood and turning the flywheel (top of engine) by hand. It will just click and if you try repeatedly, it may turn over.

I have rebuilt the starter, replaced the ignition switch, and checked the seat switch, as well as the dash switch to engage the clutch or deck. I feel like there is something happening with the flywhell, coil, etc.

Has anyone experienced this, and do you have any suggestions.

Thank You

My LX172 (same frame and deck just different engine(14hp Kawasaki) , hood, and control layout) does the same thing at times, but if I keep turning the key (not holding it in the turn over position) it turns over. It's not really a big issue, but what I suggest you do is to check your battery connections and any plugs or connections to the starter or alternator. It may be the coil, but the flywheel on top really functions more like a cooling fan than anything else, if it is still able to turn then it is not the problem.
