I have my walker in the shop right now, it was burning oil for the longest time and then started running funny and I took it in. Its now been sitting there a week and all Ive heard from them was that it needed to be replaced. They said it was snapping the exhaust valves and that was the cause for the motor to be replaced. They are going to charge me about $3000.00 for a replacement and they say shortblocking isnt an option. Shortblocking would only cost about half the price. After hearing all this and realizing that they werent wanting to say anuthing but replace, I got mad, and starting doing some research. I called kohler and gave them the problems that I had. He told me to replace the head gasket seals (which were leaking) and to replace the lifters (because I was using to heavy of an oil) and the exhaust valves and take a look at the head while the motor was apart. All of that would cost me well ender $100 for the parts plus the labour. Im going to call them tomorrow and tell them to do what kohler told me do. I have a feeling that they will tell me that they cannot do it. What do you guys think? Have any of yall ever had this problem with this type of motor before?

I had the 20 HP Kohler replaced in my Walker at 2900+ hours. It was burning oil on one side, bad. At least with a new engin, you get all new parts, compleat. If you try to patch it up you will always be replacing some other part. Mine was about $2600.00 a few years ago.

the shortblock is about 900 and a full new engine is 2000 ... they are screwing you... find a new shop...
