Since it looks like repairing my old Cushman is out the window I have started looking for a replacement machine.

I will be cutting a long - 1/4 mile driveway and around 2 homes. Mostly flat or rolling hills, nothing real steep. I would say about 2 acres total. I could cut this in about 1 hour with the Cushman.

The Cushman had a 72" deck so I am spoiled :). I looked at a Hustler FasTrak Super Duty 60" with a 25 HP Kawasaki for around $6900 today. That includes MD sales tax at 6%.

What is your take on all this?

Is 60" overkill? What other machines are in the 5900-6900 price range?
I build custom homes so I can appreciate fine tools but I don't want to toss money out the window in these hard times.

Thank you for the help.

I am not in the business but my opinion would be to check out the Bad Boy that Tractor Supply sells; friend of mine bought one and it's got 27 HP Kohler with a 7 gauge deck.

He's been very happy using it on his 6 acres at his place.

Here's a link; it lists for around 4999.

Thank you,
I will take a look at that one. My only concern is the Kohler Courage engine.

Reading through the forums here they don't seem to rate high on the list but I am still reading as many old post as I can.

^^^ Post above>>>>Kregan.... Yea the Kohler Courage engines are residentials engines. If you're going with a Kohler engine, the Kohler Command is the commercial series. The courage will handle your use, but its not made to be worked really hard.

The 1989 Chusman lasted 20 years and would have gone 10 more if the parts were still available. That is my only concern with "over buying", will the parts be available in 20 years.

On another note what do you guys think of a 52" vs the 60"

I have also been looking at the Bob Cat Fast Cat Pro, John Deere Z520A Estate Series.
I see no need for hydro. deck lift.

Went to look at the Fastrak SD in person today and they had the Super Z next to it.

The Super Z while nice is just overkill for what I need. I thought the Fastrak Superduty was the perfect size.

I was quoted a price of $6150.00 before tax. That works out to 19-20% off list.
Good price or do you think I can do better?

you can find a used exmark with a 72" deck for cheap on ebay, if you take that route email the seller and see if you can check the machine out in person. exmarks are known to have alot of hours on them but i have found some really clean units for less than 4000 being all comercial and not having more than 700hrs these are machines that would last someon like you for a long long time!

I checked out ebay... Only 1 Exmark in Maryland (60" and around 5000 i think) it has over a 1000 hours on it. Everything else is over 100 miles away and I don't have a trailer to go get one.

I have a quote from another dealer a Indiana at just under 6000.00. Freight would be 330-350.

Right now I am having a hard time finding a demo but I have contacted Hustler and they are looking into it.

Thank you for the help everyone.
