Is anyone else out there nervous about working with a wedding band on? I am getting a little nervous about losing a finger with the band getting caught on something.
Am I too paranoid?

Well, you could take it off, but if they wife gets a little upset about that you could wear gloves.

in the navy we considered this FOD i have personally seen a finger removed because of a wedding band. the rope fibers got caught in the band while we were mooring to the pier. when the boat shifted it took all the meat from the bone. TAKE IT OFF..

Not a real smart move to wear one in our line of work...i would strongly suggest you remove it and then put it back on before you get home.
I'm sure the mrs. will understand...what she won't like is going to the emergency room one day to find you laying there without a finger or your wedding band.
just my 2 cents...it happened to a buddy of mine a couple of years ago.
Allways take it off, especially if you hit the bar after work or at lunch.

Hey Grassman,
just remember this for the wife, its not the band around your finger that makes the commitment.
I stopped wearing mine a while ago, my wife understands that and we just passed our 7 year mark married.....

I was working on my Walker when the Hopper decided to close while I had my hand firmly on the frame. I just about lost 3 fingers. I have not had my wedding band on since. The hopper clamped down hard on my ring finger. My wife suggested that I stop wearing it after this incident.

A current manager, from the now defunct Chemlawn Canada,
refused to remove his wedding band. One day he decided to jump off the bed of a spray truck: ripped off his finger.

Let not talk about accidents jumping off trucks
Heard the story about a guy put a woden handled tamper on the ground by the truck... a guy jumps down.... and it landed right there...
needles to say he has not gone to the bathroom the same way since:blob3:

Why not? It is a real life story. The purpose was to convey to all concerned to be careful! You obviously missed the point.
Well on the way home from my wedding reception my wife told me to take off my ring . That was three years ago . She understands the risks we take .

I have also personally seen a finger ripped off two individuals due to a wedding band -man jumped over a fence- and another once caught on a drain truck bed (farming)-- not a pretty site-- While on the road with a telecommunications firm our company policy clearly stated not to wear rings, braclets or necklaces-- Rings don't have any place in the work force- I also knew a unmarried man that always wore a wedding band out to bars to catch women- if that indicates anything.

I wore one for almost 15 years without a problem.
Have you seen the Rolling Rock Beer commercial? Perhaps you will keep it on as a multi-tool?
For those of you who haven't seen it:
The guy in the commercial gets married and his unmarried friends are giving him a hard time for wearing jewlry(wedding band). He shows them why its not that bad because he is able to use it open his Rolling Rock. They shut up to say the least....

If you have a good relationship, a ring is irrelevant. If you don't have a strong relationship, wearing a ring probably won't cure it. I have had several near misses in the past with the ring, my wife thought it best to remove it, before it removed part of me. I think it is dangerous to wear one in our industry.

My neighbour has his tattoed onto his finger now. They make an excellent ground clamp when welding and the real ground clamp falls off. I never wear mine.

Trust is about a lot more than a wedding band. Keep your finger, put the wedding band away. My hubby wears his for special occasions. I think that's to prove that he hasn't lost the ring or misplaced it. I would really hate looking at that piece of gold if it caused a maiming.

for various reasons I do not wear a wedding band.
and safety is one of them.
and none of the reasons that I don't wear one violates my wedding vows.

If you want to keep the ring handy, I have a expandable wristwatch band, I hate wearing while working, I take the band, push through hole in ring, flip band over, and it holds ring securly. Put it in my pocket, haven't lost it yet. :D

i took mine off... of course i don't have my wife anymore either... she always got mad when i'd take it off. i explained that working on boards in a pc with thousands of electronic compenents wasn't a good thing. i still don't think she understands to this day.

Had mine on for nearly 22 years now. Worst that happened was while welding and splatter stuck to it.
Things get hot in a hurry!:blob2:
If I didn't wear mine I'd have women all over me.......and really.........who needs that anyway!;)
I don't know.......but I think Homette might cut something else off if she caught me without it.........I think I'll take my chances with the finger.

I haven't worn mine for years since I almost lost my finger on the boarding ladder of a F-14. My wife understands.

I almost lost my finger about 3 years ago hopping around a tall fence. It took a few days before the swelling went down far enough for me to get the ring off and I haven't put it back on since.
For those guys who haven't had a problem yet and still wear a ring it only takes one problem to loose the finger. I got lucky.

Wore mine when I first got married. Always got filled with driveway sealer,so I took it off and have not put it on in 11 years.
Yes she reminds me about it, but now it doesn't fit ( how did that happen)
Well just keep bringing home the $$$$ and the reminders are few and far between.LOL
Good Luck
Ive had mine 28 years now and no one is more devoted to a woman than i am to my wife but when im working it stays at home.
I had experiance with almost loseing a finger working at gm auto plants. My wife would rather see me me not go out without it then to lose a finger.
Like shady brook said a ring aint what makes a marriage strong

When I was in the army, the married blokes would just wrap
a long length of insulating tape around their weeding bands.
Tended to stop them getting caught up in things.
