the blower is a BR340. i bought it new for $300 5 years ago and i just put it on craigslist for $250 and got 11 responces in a day. it has served me well for those 5 years and has never been in the shop. it has always started right up and run well. i have put 2 airfilters and 2 spark plugs in it since i bought it. after i sell it i am going to upgrade to a BR600

Nice, now you need a Stihl Pro Trimmer. I like my FS 90R. Just a thought. Nice Stuff though.

STIHL GUY
06-17-2009, 09:29 PM
im keeping my FS55 till it dies. it has plenty of power for trimming and it is lightweight. I have a kawasaki hedge trimmer and i use the string trimmer for edging so i dont need extra power for attachments. ive had my eye on the FS90 and thats what ill be upgrading to when the time comes

Nice setup, I like the Bobcat w/b and the Stihls. Stihl is the best commercial handheld on the market IMO. I'm thinking of getting a BR-600 like yours to save time on each yard.

STIHL GUY
06-17-2009, 10:39 PM
i probably wont save to muck time per yard but it will all still ad up. im lloking to save some big time on fall cleanups

STIHL GUY
06-18-2009, 10:14 PM
Edging looks good.

thanks. it took a couple weeks to get it looking nice cause im using a string trimmer but it is really easy to maintain

93Chevy
06-18-2009, 10:17 PM
Yeah I do the same thing. I have an edger for my Echo PAS, but I only use it with the trenchblade for beds.

STIHL GUY
06-18-2009, 10:20 PM
using the trimmer is easier because its already out and its great for maintaining edges. one less tool to pay for. sometimes i get a big shaky on long straitaways but overall the edging usually comes out pretty good

Farmington Valley took you for a ride on that one man. My buddy just picked up a new 600 from there for 465.00 , out the door, at least that's what he told me. I never liked that place. They seem to over charge a lot of people. We have a small Deere Tractor from them guys. Takes for ever to get parts for it.

How big of a Trailer do you plan on towing? I have an 5x8 Enclosed Trailer that I use for Racing and I can't even tell it's there, 80MPH on the Hi-Way no problem. I have an 01 Ranger with the 4 liter in it.

I did have a 6x12 Enclosed for a few weeks and I would never pull that big of a Trailer with a Ranger ever again.

well i have a place where i can dump for free but for this one i just backed my truck up to the fire pit while my buddies and i were having a fire. i just charged for an extra half hour of work to unload it.

I tow a 10 Ft trailer and the ranger handles that really well.

just wondering bout your br600....did ur dealer give u the "magnum" edition for 2010? for that price u should have been able to get it. I payed the same thing 2 months ago for mine and it said magnum on it. i checkd into it and i guess stihl re-did the valves and a few other things to improve reliability on em. Your gonna love it either way. best stihl purchase ive made next to the fs90r. oh ya, i like your toolbox idea. turned out great, i might copy your design once i get a bigger trailer

no $520 out the door is the right price for the BR600 "MAGNUM". Your "buddy" probly got the 2009 model which doesnt say magnum on it. the 2010 magnum has better valves and stihl improved a few things for reliability from issues they had on the previous br600. so you didnt get taken for a ride at all... obviously he doesnt know what hes talkin about

The way I have my boards are set up are in 3 pieces.
2 side boards
1 back board. (my back board doesnt have a window but I don't think it would make a difference in construction of the boards.

Anear the cab of my truck where the side boards meet the back board I have 8 screws (4 on each side) if you take those 4 screws off the boards come off. It is pretty quick to take them off and put them on. Takes maybe 2 to 3 minutes at the most.

Yeah...the problem I have is I don't want any screws. On or off, right now. No tools. I'm not in any way trying to bash your design or anything, so please don't think I'm being critical. I'm thinking of doing something where I can attach it with 4 gate pins, so I can just undo and pull out.

Don't worry about it I know exactly where you are comming from. The gate pins might be a good idea. What ever you end up doing grab some pics because if it is more efficent or easier to put on and off then I might change mine. But for me mine work now so I am going to keep them the way they are. Best of luck with the gate pins sounds like they might work really good.

last year i had the leaf loader mounted on the ranger as well as the leaf box. your deffinitly going o want some airbags or helper springs in your s10 if you do that plan. this year i have my 2500HD so i am going to still be using the swing away hitch and i will build a leafbox for the truck. I will also be able to tow my trailer at the same time

heres a few more pics. The first pic is just the truck and box, the second one is how it is connected. the angle iron is mounted permanently onto one side and the other side is held on by 4 wing nuts so that it can be disassembles in a matter of seconds without any tools. The third is a pic of the inside. the sides just slide right into the corner pockets so they come out really easily. They are also very sturdy

so far what do u like better the ranger or silverado?

deffinitly the chevy. I can haul so much more with a full sized truck and it you cant even feel the weight when your driving it. I do like the ranger for just pulling my trailer but for hauling and cleanups the chevys a beast. Itll be a lot better for leaf season with the box and loader.

oakwdman
05-05-2010, 10:42 PM
You sure thats 5 yards? I don't mean to start this debate but that seems more like 4 tops. I had 5 in my truck last year and it was level with the top of the sides almost all the way around and I have barn doors in the back.

jeffslawnservice
05-05-2010, 10:59 PM
Not to be an A$$hole Oakwood man but I think that if you have side boards on a 8ft bed pick up and the sides come up to the top of the cap the capacity is 6 cubic yards. Over in Jersey you need to have it marked and I see it all the time but I might be wrong.

oakwdman
05-05-2010, 11:18 PM
Then I really love where I get my mulch from! I'm not saying it was perfectly level all around the top, but it was to the point where I would have had a lot spilling out w/o the barn doors in the back at 5 yards even if it was heaped.

STIHL GUY
05-06-2010, 08:54 PM
yeah its 5. it was packed down too

93Chevy
05-06-2010, 09:26 PM

i took the bowtie off and there was a black one underneath and the gold plastic one was taped to that. so i just tossed the plastic cracked part and spray painted the black one gloss black and taped off the rest and painted it red. not too bad at all

and my bobcat cuts great. i love it and its a real sturdy/tough mower. i can run it through practically anything

why do you have airbags when running the setup you have?

They deff help in fall with all the leaves we make him clean up.

Oh ya nice bowtie i like it better than the original. just make sure you have extra hoses for next winter so theres no green or red fluid all over it.

Would be interested in hearing your feedback on the VRide after you use it for a bit. I'm in the market for a new mower and I'm torn between a Scag rider and the V-Ride. I'm leaning more towards the rider because I have a few lawns I bag and I'd have to empty the side mount catchers too often.

its really maneuverable and will go anywhere that my 48" WB will. so its great for wide open properties as well as the smaller tight ones

i have logged 10 hrs on it so far and have no complaints. i like how manueverable it is as well as its speed and power. the cut quality is great. i barley ever bag...maybe 2 times a year so a ztr with a bagger didnt interest me

haha i only have one account with a gate and the guy told me he wanted to take care of the mowing inside the gate when i gave the estimate. i do have a few lawns where the backs are real tight or have stuff in the way but the 48" can squeeze into those

Dang, nice machine. How well does it do on hills?

it holds hills really well. as long as you can hold on/stay on the platform itll handle the hills up and down on hills this thing is great and side to side works really good as well as long as its not too steep. it will handle any hills that the WB will

I'd really like to use those instead of walk behinds, but we do some really really steep hills that I feel safe on with a walk behind because I know if I slips how to control slide and stop it. With a stander, I wouldn't feel as comfortable in certain areas...maybe it's all a matter of getting used to the machine.

At any rate that looks like a very nice machine and I hope it does you well.

yeah once your used to it its not a big deal... it is much faster and less tiring than a walkbehind meaning more productivity
