I sure you can help me with my mower!!! When you engage any of the three gear speeds nothing happens. I mean nothing. I've checked the belt and its fine, it seems a little loose but maybe its supose to be that way. Is there a tentioning device on those belts? Cause if not I think that the Pinion gear part #60-8890 is probably stripped out or something. What do you think? I love this mower.... after 10 years it still starts on the first or second pull.
Thanks Gary

Well, if you mean NOTHING, like the handle has NO tension at all, the traction cable could have come disconnected. This actually happened on one of my GTS5s a few days ago. Check both ends to make sure. If they are both connected, and the trans gets pulled up when you engage the handle, the cable's alright. Your speed-adjuster cable could have broken too, that's happened to me before too.
When the motor is running, flip the handle up. If the belt tightens up and spins the trans pulley, you have internal trans problems (unless your speed-adjuster cable is broken, and it is stuck in Neutral).
Hope this makes sense, and good luck.

If the belt is operating the transmission pulley and you have no output at the wheel assemblies there are a couple of other things you might consider. First, remove the wheels, the pinions, clutch and friction washers, then start the mower and engage the trans belt. If you have output there, then your plastic clutch washer is worn and will not engage the dog. I have seen this condition due to lack of grease at the pivot arm. If you have no output in this condition, the drive pin in the shaft may be sheared or as you indicate the input pinion may be worn. Normally you would have heard the input pinion making some noise prior to failure I would think.
