I changed my blades today and after doing so when I engaged the blades to mow it started sounding like a freight train. The cut was descent, but not as good as it should be with fresh blades. As I was changing the blades I noticed a good amount of play on the exit side blade/spindle. My question is do I have a bearing going out or what? Also, I have noticed a lack of blade speed lately. I do not know if this would be related or not. I do know several things can cause that such as engine firing on one cylinder and even a belt wearing out. Any help would be appreciated.

A good diagnostic tool to have is an IR laser pointed thermometer. Just point it at each spindle, and the hot one is the bad one. Also check to make sure that one or more blades isn't on upside down, or with an incorrect stack of washers on top or bottom of the blade. While on the subject of washers, there should be a fiber washer on the top of every blade, helps keep 'em tight and quiet. Also check to make sure that the engine to deck belt isn't cracked, chunked out, or improperly installed, it can happen. Also check both idlers on the triangle plate, to make sure they are properly aligned to each other, and the bolts are tight. Also check the engagement spring, it should be 1-1/2 inches long, when adjusted right. For max belt life, don't engage or disengage blades under 2500 RPM. Almost all of this has occurred to me in the first 600 hrs of operation, some has happened to friends, too. Let me know if it's something else, I want to learn, too.:waving:
