OK guys, I hate the spools on trimmers and am going ot get me a shindy speed feed.
Now, my questin is: which one?
I have a section up the cabin that is 30 x 60 that is nothing but 2 foot weeds. Not trees, weeds. There are some bigs rocks thrown in that I cant use a mower or a tractor just yet.
I am not looking to get a blade or one that can attach a blade. I hear alot about the t242 models. I was thinking of going bigger with a t260 due to the high weeds that I will be cutting about 3 times a year
Any thought or insight would be greatly appreciated. I will try to get some pics so you can see what I am talking about.:walking:

You're making a mistake not going with the blade. One of the 4 star blades would be perfect and you'd not need a expensive trimmer just for a small weed patch.
Now if you're going to use it commercially, that's a different story but I'd still use a blade on that crap. it'd be faster and less hassle than trying to cut it with trimmer line.

Yes it will be used commercially as well.
I just figured that a blade was only good for "woody" stems not just weeds. hmmm. Now you got me thinking.

I have a t242 and like it. I think it will be powerful enough for your weeds. I have a speedfeed head on mine and use .105 string. I also have a shindaiwa blade for mine. It is a round disc with 6 chainsaw teeth on it. It cuts great and is real simple to sharpen.

What model Stihl trimmer do you already have? If you have a strong 4-mix model, you can get a special Shindy speed feed head for it.
I would say just experiement with Stihl line on you Stihl trimmer to see what cuts the weeds best.

I own 2 T260 Shindowas. The speed feed head is one of the best heads they have ever came out with. The machines have plenty of power for doing anything. I have cut through some nasty crap before and it cuts it like butter.

I just bought a T242 yesterday. I love it. The only Reason I didnt buy the 242x is because it wasnt in stock. I would recomend the 242x with a blade it will cut through almost anything you can think of.

When I bought my 242, my dealer said not to use a blade on it, and that you need a 260 for that.

T242 does not have the power for thick weeds.
Real good for maintained grass, but for 2 foot weeds...it lacks in power.
I love the 242 for grass though.

I think I am going to go with the 260 and get a blade as well.
I could use it on my resi's as well as the tough weeds for the cabin just put the blade on.
My stihl was stolen so I need a new trimmer.

I thought the T260 were discontinued or are they still available?

actually I believe its a t261 model, not 260...but I am not sure. I will check with dealer when I go this week
I got an 8 tooth blade for my trimmer. It is for grass/weeds and cuts through them like a laser. However, it will also take care of brush up to about 1.5". I highly recommend it.
