Questions is, what are you useing now ?

Yea, a few years back I had to do a complete system to a Scag after the owner wiped out his wheel motors. Just make sure you prime the wheel motors before you connect the hoses, then prime each hose. You don't want to (cavatate sp?) run the wheel motors with out any oil :nono:

It can be a messy job  So work as clean as you can, clean everything before hand, you can not get any dirt in the system. Keep some Kitty litter or oil dry handy too

I just bought this mower 2 weeks ago with 250 hrs on it. It has original hydro oil in it.

Well, I actually talked to a guy from Scag today via phone. He talked me out of the idea and siad I should stick to regular oil. 1) syn oil actually ran a little hotter in their testing, 2) their system usually runs 180 degrees which is plenty cool enough for reg oil, and 3) syn has more detergents in it which could break loose and crud and damage the system.

So he just advised I pull the drain plug, replace filter and then fill er back up with 25w50. I did just that today - all is good - I guess.....lol.

I do like my syn oil tho - I guess I will just not put it in the hydros. I did just chnage the engine over to 10w30 mobil1 extended perf.

Thanks all!

I've been deliberating this also. A couple of years ago, I mistakenly put gas in the hydro tank of a Lesco walkbehind (I was distracted by a pair of short shorts) and the Cub dealer put synthetic oil in. I have a Scag walkbehind with undetermined hours and a Lesco Z2 with about 1000 hours. I was planning on putting synthetic in both. Both were bought used and current oil type is unknown. Some people say the synthetic runs cooler some say hotter, who the heck are we supposed to listen to? Tony
