This is our second flier. Anything you guys would change? It's going to be printed B&W on green paper. Probably around 200-250.
It looks like crap. Considering you would even ask that question I suggest you get a printer to put together a flyer for you. You could give him a print of your design so he knows what to put on it.

You should put your "the grass is greener" bit on the top...to catch people's attention. Ryall's Landscaping doesn't have the same name recognition as McDonald's or WalMart. Nobody cares about your name really. You want something to catch their eye.
It's a really basic flier. You should at least do a little spacing, everything is so bunched up. Also everything is left-oriented, it kind of looks like you're just reading out of a book. When all else fails, print it out on neon pink paper and you are good to go!

Hey Bro,
I have to agree it does look cheesy! Do you have microsoft publisher or works? If so, check out some of the templets and take it from there. Just a thought!!!

IT looks HORRIBLE!
BTW thats the same line I'm using on my biz. "The grass is always greener on our side."
I would get someone else to redo it for you.

First do a google search for fliers so you can get a feel of what looks good see how to lay out your information.
Then go to the image editor at http://www.aviary.com and use that to build your flyer. Export your completed flyer as a .tiff or .png(.tiff is better for print work).
Remember, the information is important but it's just as important the way it's presented. An good layout will leave a lasting impression on those you are marketing to.

"The grass is always greener on our side," help us out here. What does that mean? What would it mean to a potential customer? Somebody else said they use the same slogan. What are you attempting to convey with this statement?
To me, it carries an idea of snobbery. Those on the "other side" (whatever that means) are in more difficulty. It is pitting you against something/somebody else. In this case, the "somebody" could be the potential customer. The slogan is a statement of rejection to me.

Definitely over-analyzing the motto :\..It really shouldn't be taken offensively .
The reason it is sort of bunched up is because I was aiming for 2/page. I'll try looking into a template if you really think it's that bad. I thought a flyer was a flyer :\.
If you put that flyer out people are going to think you're 12 yo. if you are 12 yo, no offense
How I learned to do flyers was basically copying other flyers that I liked. Over the years I've gone through some books, the non-designers design book by robin williams is a good one. I've also got better and better programs, but I've never used word lol. I started with correl 5 and now I'm using Illustrator CS3 and some photoshop.
I literally collect all the flyers that catch MY eye, then I try to copy them or copy parts of them.
Seriously, if you considered distributing that flyer of yours you are better off getting someone to put a flyer together for you.

I'm 17.. Well I did some changes to it and printed 300 of them. We passed out a bit over half tonight, so..we'll see if it works. :cool2:
I'm going to look into what a decent response/customer ratio is for flyers. I know the first 150 wasn't very successful (only about 6 or 8 calls out of 150).. I'm hoping these ones are better :hammerhead:
6-8 calls is pretty good considering the time of year, hopefully you turned a couple into jobs. I'd be a little leary of people who would respond to that flyer, you might get some real cheap skates or people that got dumped by other lcos.

Well, all you can do is try. Cheap skates don't fly in my book. Pay a decent price or don't get it done.
I got an exact count. It was 5. 5/150 = 3.33%. Out of the 3.3%, I only got (so far, trying to get responses out of 2 or 3 still) 2 jobs.
Part of the reason I didn't do a lot of work on the flyer is because we were trying to make cheap ones. We got 300 for $17. 2 hours of work, $17, and we hopefully get a few customers out of it. I didn't want to add a lot of graphics/such for a B&W copy.

....
I think you are trying to build a customer base. "... or don't get it done" implies you will sit on your couch, rather than be out working - at any price. Sitting on your couch will not build your customer base. I understand not wanting to work for nothing, but when at this stage of your cycle, getting out working, getting your name known, having other people see your work, getting referrals, ... all important to building a customer base. This will not happen sitting on the couch.
At some later stage you may be able to take your stance. At this stage, ... well, you need to rethink your strategy.

I never said I didn't give out very reasonable (maybe a bit on the cheap side) prices. I just meant that I'd rather not work and enjoy my summer, go fishing, swimming, etc. than I would work for next to no profit.
I've landed 3 jobs out of the 6 responses from the first round of fliers. All 3 were big jobs (to me, anyway. Not just mowing), and I have one more that I am supposed to mow weekly starting this week. 4 out of 6 landed is pretty good if you ask me. I think my business strategy is working fine, no offense.

How can you get a half of a customer?

It looks homemade. You need to add some spice aka professionalism. It is neat and tidy, though.

Agreed ... just because it's black and white doesn't mean it can't look good. I'm working in photoshop tonight so I'll make a quick one for you so you can see.

Here you go ... It's not perfect but it's amazing what 15 minutes in PS will do.

A little imagination takes things to an ENTIRE new level. That's a nice basic flyer, not sure how the background would come into play at the printers but, even on canary yellow or green (or neon pink like someone said.. I've done that lol) it would look good.

I never said I got half of a customer. The period you see in "5.5" is to end the sentence..not to make it a decimal lol.

Yeah..I really just wanted it to be simple. I don't have photoshop (though was going to get a trial downloaded and try making one in that) so it's hard to make it too cool in MS Word.

I do like it. It looks at least somewhat better. Maybe I'll use it on our next batch..Like I said, we don't have PS. Thanks :)

Yeah.. We got them printed on a really bright orange color. Our first batch was like a neon green. Either way, it stands out very well. Pink might be our next color lol.
A long time a ago when we (I used to have a partner) getting started and wise old successful guy told us that black print on Pink paper will get the ladies attention. We even put our pics on it, folded three way, they had prices on them and they were very successful but it was for window cleaning NOT lawns. But... maybe.
Now a days I use white paper and two colour, 3 colour or full colour on 20lb paper. I'll say it again, having prices on the flyers is awesome.
