Here is the latest edition to my fleet. It is an 85 1-ton 4x4 dually GMC. It came complete with dump and plow (Meyers--in the bed). This was a Craigslist find, only 1 hour from my house. Oh yeah--as I am a diesel fan, this has the 6.2 diesel, TH400 auto trans and NP205 gear drive transfer, which is handy, because, this trucks dump system operates off the PTO. Truck was formerly a Seymour Indiana city truck--77K documented miles. $2700.00 out the door! I was planning on spending $3500.00 just for a dump box for one of my other 1 tons, but here I have all I was looking for, plus more. It will get the usual "camo" paint pattern later in the year after I prep some of the surface rust--also, no rot holes in the floors, cab corners or the bed. I will be selling the Meyers plow system (mount plow and wiring). Go ahead---envy me.

Forgot to talk about what my intentions are with this truck. First, this opens up an entirely new market for me--Hauling bulk material (mulch, stone, sand, etc), not only for me and my own contracts, but for other customers that want to do their own install of these materials. It will also get a new 9'2" Boss V-plow and for now, a new Buyers spreader for the back. Anyone else that has a dump that is willing to share with me what other markets may be open to me, I am all ears. Thanx for checking out my new truck.

Good find. I got my 96 Dump off craigslist too, although I sure didnt get any screamin deal, thats for sure. My dump hardly ever sits, we use if for everything from pulling the mowing rig, tree/shrub trimming jobs, mulch, dirt rock, firewood, and who know what all else, just so incredibly handy to have. The huge plus for my though is that I'm getting a 10' stainless western Ice Breaker spreader for it this winter, I had a 8' Hiniker with 1' side boards last winter, and the truck would haul whatever you put in the spreader. We don't do a whole lot of delivery only stuff, but have parked it and let somebody fill it up with construction/remodel debris, then haul it to the dump for a $50 haul fee and then the dump cost.

That truck will struggle with a 9'2" boss. Trust me. i've had much newer 1 tons that cold barely handle the 9'2" Go with an 8'

Gotta love the old 6.2 diesels! My grandfather has several of them. One is in a 1/2 ton short bed 2wd. That thing will move!
I don't know this for sure, but to haul materials for other people, you might need DOT authority and all that stuff if you don't have it already. One way around this is to purchase the material yourself, so you're hauling personal property.

No save yourself the embaressment and do not paint it camo.
First thing you want to look respectable and camo is not that.
id go with a black paint get the wheels, bumpers and grill re dipped in chrome, and get the wooden boards on the dump bed wrapped in aluminum diamondplating and add some aluminum underbody storage boxes.
nice find and good luck with the project.
