We are now starting to run into a Tecumseh parts availability problem. Has anyone else had this problem yet? I heard that there would be parts available for at least 3 years before there was a problem. We just had a rider in that the carb needed a kit and our suppler tells us he could not get it. Now here is the bad part, the engine was still under warranty and the site where we have filed Tecumseh warranties for years was shut down and no one was answering the phone. I knew this would happen but not this soon. How is the Tecumseh deal going at your shop? I would like to hear about it.

I no longer work in a shop envoirnment but the shop that I did work in and currently get parts from is experiencing the very same problems you describe. One thing you may consider is some after market parts. NAPA has a small engine supplier and the quality has been good. About the only item I have been dissatisfied with is a Briggs carb kit replacement for 498260. Give them a shot if you are having problems with the OEM supplier.

No parts problem yet here, Don't know about the warranty because I haven't filed one in a looong time.

BTW, Since when was a carb kit (most likely needed due to cleaning of trash/varnish/bad fuel) covered under warranty ?

Restrorob, I do not know much about that warranty bit either. All I know is the owner was screaming warranty and Keith was trying to tell her there was no place for him to even try to file one. Keith tried to clean the carb half a dozen times and it still would not work right. Maybe the carb was a defect and that was what the warranty bit was about, not sure. Do you know if the Tecumseh deal is going to effect the TECUMSEH PEERLESS TRANSMISSION line?

I've been out of the loop for awhile, and I knew Tecumseh was going under, but I didn't realize no one bought them. That would explain the Chondas I've been seeing on Wal-Mart mowers. Isn't Toro still putting Tecumsehs on their pushes?
