Interested to hear opinions on the Komatsu PC35 mini ex. I'm considering a used 06 with very low hours. I spoke with the owner and he sent me photos of the machine. It looks very clean and well taken care of in the photos. I haven't seen it in person and operated it yet. Did a little search on here and found some positive feedback. I'd like to hear any other input on it. Thanks!

Hell, the standard Komatsu stick is almost longer than everyone else's long stick.

The long stick PC35 is a heck of a machine. The controls are really good with good power. The controls are much better than Kubota, Takeuchi and Cats as far as smoothness at least on the ones I have run.

Ask what type of engine it has, the Yanmar's are good, but Komatsu's are terrible on fuel, a dude that GR and I know on an island has a new PC55MR and he gets 8 hours out of a tank, and he hates it, it has the Komatsu engine.
Other than that, they are the Cat's of Japan.

The Komatsu engines are peegs on fuel. I don't know what it is but the 158 I used to run was a real fuel pig. Komatsu is a okay machine kinda cheaply constructed but they do the job.
About 5 years ago there was a Komastu sales man that used to roam the area like a street worker. There was no protection used and Komatsu machines started popping up every where. Everybody was buying a Komatsu.
The one thing I liked about the Komatsu is they are quick if you want to move they move. It was good for slinging the dirt. Its not good if your used to a slow machine because you can look like a amatuer.
Again if your used to a Kubota or a Isuzu engine that sips fuel you will have a hard time getting used to a Komatsu that sucks fuel at a alarming rate

No joke Komatsu engines burn fuel, we'd get 8-10 hours on the Komatsu hoes at my last gig before they were out of fuel. Most hoes should run at least 1.5 days before being out of fuel. This has a little to do with tank size, but it seemed across the board regardless of machine size.

My Ditch witch is a PC35. Its got a Komatsu diesel that takes kubota filters. It does get around 12 hrs on a fuel fill.
My guys love it. Only think they complain about is the temp inside the cab. You sit above the motor, and the heat is always seaping inside the cab. Today was 95 with a heat index of 104 with the humidity. It was easily 110 in the cab.
Next small machine I buy will be an open cab because of this.

Outside of the United States Komatsu is supposedly #1 in excavator market share. They make excellent machines in the excavator line and nearly everything else as the world's #2 equipment manufacturer (excepting their skid steer or CTL)
The PC35 machines I think are excellent machines, the power is near the top in most regards but the controls are what make it stand out. Very easy to control and very precise. Our PC35 is long stick version. We get slightly over a 1 days fuel run out of it. I do wish that Komatsu had placed auto idle on the machine b/c I think that would help.

The PC35 holds 17 gallons according to the specs so that is not unacceptable.
My Kubota will really drink the fuel if you have to run it Wide open, but with Kubotas Hyd you do not have to.

Depends on how long your days are....
Actually, I'm pretty much wrong on my statement. According to my guys its about every two days. That's what I get for not paying enough attention since its the Komatsu skid steer CK35 that sucks it down. I just know we went through an awful lot of fuel over the past 2 months.
I've got a fuel consumption chart for nearly Komatsu equipment. The PC35MR-2 is estimated to consume about 1.29 gal/hr. in heavy conditions.

I agree with everything you said except for the part on market share. Kubota is the worldwide leader for minis up to 8 tons. I can't speak for Komatsu on the heavier side but I think they'd be right up there with CAT.

I actually read the statement about Komatsu being #1 in excavator market share outside the US in a trade magazine sometime early last year-I'd verify but I am sure my wife has "cleaned" my office for me by now. There was no clarification on what defined the market but it would not surprise me that it could/would be something larger than 8 tons. Komatsu was not a major player in the small market until they formed the utility division.
All I can say is that they are #2 worldwide in construction equipment behind CAT.

I think you're right -- maybe digdeep thought you were referring specifically to minis, but outside of the US, I do believe Komatsu is #1 and Cat #2. I'm not sure what happens if you take the US into consideration, though.

I'm pretty sure that CAT comes out on top when bringing the US into the market share on excavators........
I think the mini market is really fragmented because there are several good players in that market. There are a lot of purchasers in the mini market that only purchase one mini-ex either for the life of the machine or at most 2 over a long time horizon.
Very few of those purchasers ever move into the bigger machine category and if they do they probably have bigger machines than Kubota, Takeuchi, or Bobcat produce currently.
