Compactor acting up

Hey guys, at the school where I work we have an older Mikasa plate compactor. Recently it has developed a problem where it vibrates like crazy but doesn't move forward at all. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it just a problem with the vibrator and can it be fixed fairly easily?

Check the oil in the vibrator.

I oiled up the vibrator and it moves forward properly now. I don't think anyone has maintained that compactor for some time. It seems to get overlooked since it doesn't really belong to any one department in particular.
