Hi everyone
I'm looking to buy my first truck this year but because i don't have much driving experience my commercial insurance quotes are through the roof. (1000+/month) Does anyone have any idea what i can do? Is it possible to incorporate a company and then have a parent as the main driver of the vehicle because their insurance rating is better? I'd appreciate any insight.

Well the policy is using the highest rated driver to determine the rates, so no, you cannot add on drivers to decrease the rate. In addition, most commercial companies have a 'yes or no' approach to drivers. However, some companies like Progressive and GMAC will in fact charge by factors such as age and history. At 1K a month something is wrong. Either the person quoting it or your record, likely combined w/ the weight of the truck. Find an independent agent that specializes in business insurance and you will get a better result. I am curious who quoted the 1k monthly?

No....... but the parent can buy the truck and loan it to you for work.

BUT! 12,000..... thats 12 grand a year, I don't care how little experience you have that est. is misunderstood.

To add my 15 yr old to my Commercial insurance when he turns 16 would cost an additional $3000/year. Company told me that a driver with no experience would rate the same as a driver who had a DUI. Sucks , but that's the way it is. Why are you looking for commercial insurance? Tell the insurance comapany( a different one) that you use the truck for work and see what they say. Seems like someone is really trying to rip you off.
