Yeah I got a business degree and an environmental controls degree as well. Mostly it is just a piece of paper. Good to have if you want to get hired somewhere but if you are the boss why bother. You might learn a few things that are helpfull but I haven't needed anything I learned yet.

I'll give a quick rundown of my story here.

Always liked cutting grass, etc.

Graduated high school, started college in civil engineering. Why? I'm still not fully sure, lol, but there was a lot of pressure because I've always had good grades, etc. liked working with my hands, and so on.

3 semesters later, switched to business, followed my passion of landscaping, got a job on a landscape nursery install crew and loved it. Opened my part time biz this year, still working fulltime in the summer, and I have one more year of college left.

I love college. I didn't waste 3 semesters in engineering, I tried something that didn't work. All in all, I think the whole college experience was worth it, even though I'm going to be my own boss fulltime someday. Plus, I learned a lot about contract law, managing employees, finances and accounting so far.

In my opinion, I think the schooling is worth it, but there's a lot who would disagree.

Well, that's it. Hope it wasn't too boring, lol. :waving:

I would say yes. Obviously there are many things that you will need to know but from my time in college you don'y really retain much of it. You learn it to pass the test than dump it and go on to the next test. Buy some good books and read, ask people who know and do it that way. Or take a few classes at night school to get the basics down. Good luck and hope it all works out.

No, I don't thin that's what 93Chevy said ... I think he said there are alot on LS that would disagree with him !!

Maybe I wasn't exactly clear in my post.

For me, the schooling is worth it. I've gained valuable knowledge, made lifelong friends, and had great experiences that I never would have had if I had just started my business. I'm learning so much more than just going to work right out of high school. I made the right decision for myself.

However, anybody who has had a different experience is free to disagree with take on school

WOW guys: me too...

computer engineer here, the attacks on America got me, rather us,
worked my way through school cutting grass. after everythign fell apart I went back to what I know.

the Business classes I took " rather HAD to take" has helped me somewhat. more of learning that others done have a clew about what there doing or talking about.
Bookkeepers and such,

a business degree wont really help you much.
most people dont study money, as in what to do with it....

I have 3 ex-wives that I deal with every month - each pays me ******/month. I consider all my bills(diapers, cat food, toys, etc) part of my business. Remind me to stop asking SuperModels for dates. No one else does - because of fear. I will never marry another one!!!!!!

You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO SCHOOL to figure all this out. IE: Most people that have a degree in Business Management are competing for jobs with other people in Business Management. I Frigging loathe Donald Trump - however, he owns a quote that I will never forget - "most people are losers" - he is talking about the people that "think" they need "that" degree and "this" degree. Well, actually he wasn't talking about either, but the point is - to get out there. A piece of paper, is just that.

Don't sell yourself short !!!!!!

If you "really" don't have the confidence, then read some books and maybe take a course here and there.... create your own vision and reap the rewards.

Name me 5 people that have a degree in business management and I will give you the names of 30 people that have that degree and are under/unemployed.

I never went to college and regret it every day. The fact of the matter is that some of the most successfull/wealthy around di not go. Going to school should be a faster/better way to LEARN proven methods. While in school take classes on economics and marketing. School might not make you betterbut I have to meet the person who got stupid by going to college. I bust my hump in 100+ temps to make a good living. My wife sits in AC and Heat making good money all day because of the Stupid papers on the wall behind her desk. Learn all you can.

.

A bit of insecurity? like we care you have 3 ex wives that you claim are supermodels like your the only one who will ask them out. anyways....im 3 classes shy of my BS degrees. honestly the only classes ive applied to my business are the classes i thought were pathetic and easy, the communication classes. sad but true, they point out things that are simple that i dont think many give thought to. all my calc 2/fundimentals of math, pysch, etc classes are all near meaningless in this business. even my business classes dont relate. they are more about supply and demand, and if you dont understand that...well... think about it for 2 mins and you should. school is important but not necessary for landscaping. many pros and cons, see if you think its worht while. i dont think id ever trade it in, but would be so much further along with my business had i not gone
