Has anyone ever used NextDoor Sales (http://sellnextdoor.com/) or any other neighborhood marketing campaigns?
If so, was it worth it? What was your ROI?
I did a quick blog post on NextDoor Sales... here (http://blog.contractspot.com/2009/06/neighborhood-marketing.html)... but I would love to adjust it to include your thoughts and feedback.

My next-door sales works pretty well. Just be friendly to the owners next-door to a customer, offer them some advice, express a willingness to mow when they need help (e.g. vacation, before a big event). In one case, I saw the result of their own mowing was bad because of a dull blade. I offered to sharpen it for them -- also made a couple of other repairs to their mower. Soon, they hired me to do their work. When a new resident moves next door to an existing customer, I make a point of introducing myself, and getting a card into their hands. Getting customers concentrated in an area improves productivity because driving and loading/unloading is eliminated.
Marketing is a full-time job, especially when working.
I don't have any programs in place for getting the neighbors as customers, but most all of my stops service two or more properties without moving the truck, a lot of the others have only a few places in between. It seems like if I get one property in a new neighborhood/street I need to make sure to schedule it so that I can do at least one more lawn in that area, just in case.
