Don't know what to say.
Commercial equipment
Commercial equipment
Commercial equipment
Speed, reliability and quality of work.
Depends on your business plan and what you are willing to put into it.
Money can be great but there is a lot of overhead to be legit.
Good Luck

Triplett,
How long does it take you to make that $900? With commercial equipment, and a market that's saturated with unlicensed low-ballers, I can make that in less than 20 hours flying solo.
Some guys on here make that in 15 hours or less.
By using commercial equipment, our production rate is at maximum effectiveness and our time on the job is reduced to the bare minimum. The less time you're on the job, the more jobs you can do. The more jobs you do, the more money you make.
Let's say it takes you 30 hours a week right now to make that $900. Commercial equipment would cut that in half at least. Now you have room for another $900/week in clients on your schedule. How about making double w/o working harder? And I'll bet I'm being conservative...
Go commercial!
I think you should ditch the briggs and go for an electric mower. People really like consistency. Not to mention your margins would go way up because your fuel expenses would plummet.

When I first started I had a 21 inch 3.5 HP mower and decided I wanted a self propelled so i went to the local dealer and started looking. After all was said and done I ended up buying a 32 inch w/b exmark viking. cut my time in more than half the first week. It dint take long for me to pick up extra accounts to fill up all that spare time I had. Now I have a 48 inch walker, 60 inch dixie chopper and guess what im still using the exmark 10 years later and all Ive ever done to it was change the oil and blades best investment I ever made.

I don't tell people how much money I make, but suffice it to say that my wife hasn't worked in over 5 years.
About the electric equipment: Hey, whatever works. I've actually got an 18 inch Clemson reel-type push mower (I'm the motor) that I still use on occasion. I've been pushing it for over 30 years. It does seem to get a little slower every year though! I can use it in places where I can't get a power mower and where a string trimmer takes too long. In fact, I just mowed part of my lawn with it the other day. I had a few tall spots in the lawn that needed mowing and hadn't woken the power equipment up from it's long winter nap yet.

You must be that guy I saw the other day...... Had a black and decker letric mower and weedeater going around in one of my neighborhoods looking to cut yards out of a back of a ford escort.;) Your jokin right? actually When I first started my first LCO' back in the late 80's I used a cheap murray mower, and some lowball tools..... Nowdays, never. the other guys are right, commercial tools will save you in the long run, You do $900 in a week, I do $400 a day just by myself, and there are guys here that do even more than that in a day. But hey, if you can keep your expences low that is fine.
