After 19 years I retired my John Deere Model 14SD push mower for and gave her away for $80. May she RIP with her new owner, I had problems for the last year, new head gasket last year, tired and spockets, this year drive belt which still comes off and never was fixed properly and new pull rope and last, problems with the hight adjustment to the wheel would not stay in place and we'll, enough is enough.

My new deere with swivel front wheels :cool2:

and for a walk behind I can get a good jog while mowing

Have not mulched with it yet, only had two weeks and I catch the grass rather then mulch. But came with a mulching attachment.

Purchased directly from John Deere as I hear bad things about buying same models from Home depot or lowes.

Looks nice, i also love the way that they're rounded in the front.

Picked this one up at Lowes for my Moms yard two weeks ago. It was sitting out side with two other returns similar to it but this one had not cut any grass.
I gave it a good looking over saw nothing wrong and it had all the paperwork included. Best part was the price. Originally $539. Sale for $250. Wife has put about 8 hours on it so far and it cranks first pull every time for her. She likes it pretty well.

No bagger included but it mulches pretty good. No complaints here.

Looks like the same model pictured above except for the motor.

Sorry Pics are taken with iPhone.

One exception, look at your starter rope; your's comes straight up to the handle. I hate the way mine is on a pully right behind the bagger then comes up to the handle. I've already noticed when I go to pull it at times it's came off so I see where mine could wear out fast.

If nmanley had a bagger, his rope would be routed like yours kirk.

Looks like a nice mower, hope you like it.

I'd bet that rope wouldn't interfere with the bagger enough to matter if your pulley was removed. Might be worth a try. :dancing:

It's the same way on my Snapper 21." I just don't use the pulley. Wears our the rope too fast.

I will be looking into that, like nmanley said and I don't have to remove the pulley just bypass it. Nothing is there to guide it, keep it there so if it comes off and you don't look to make sure, well you know the rest.

1. As for liking it, after almost 20 years with previous mower will take some getting use too.
Old mower had its own lever to engage the blade. Let go of safty control on handle, disengaged the blade but did not kill engine.

New mower, let go of same safty control kills engine so to empty the bag you have to restart, used to mow whole lawn without killing engine.

2. Bagger, lot harder to get on and off but on the flip side to that the bagger is twice as big as the old one.

How long??
Look at the first or second photo of the new mower at top, see the mower at the corner at street? It is the john deere model 14SB purchased in 1991.

Its for sale because engine still runs great, I was tired of fooling with all the other stuff that wore out

Sold yesterday for $80

If I have to bag, I just wrap a very small bungee cord around the handle so I don't have to restart my mower. On the lawns I bag, there are no hills, and I'm a good operator, so it's not unsafe. As far as mower/blades running with kids around, I always take the mower with the full bag back to the truck and it's never more than 5 feet away from me at all times.

I did notice the second mower on the pic before and figured it was the old one. It terms of hours what are we looking at?

I'm asking since one of my customers offered to sell his husqvarna with a similar engine on it.
